Record jam of ships in seaway
A record jam of 173 foreign ships in the Great Lakes Seaway system risks entrapment before winter. Most vessels are near Welland or west, with 81 above Detroit and 74 above Port Huron. Docks at a dozen ports are crowded as lines move cargo by train or truck, and a cold snap could freeze St. Lambert locks, trapping ships west of Montreal.
