Deadline Friday for Grundy County real estate taxes
Friday is the deadline to pay Grundy County real estate taxes at banks. Personal property taxes may be mailed or paid in person at the county treasurer and collector office, Mrs. Pauline Coleman, at the courthouse. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. The office remains open at noon. Coleman hopes to disburse tax funds to agencies by late September.

The International Air Transport Association says extremist movements target travelers to carry hazardous devices on flights. Following a Rome incident the group urges passengers not to accept packages or gifts from strangers for either checked or hand baggage. Two British teenagers said the device was given as a gift by two Arabs met in Rome. they have been detained.

Creed dies, order autopsy in Grundy County case
Peter Creed 59 a Grundy County sheriff deputy died from injuries after an incident near his Morris apartment. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause. A 47 year old Morris man was cleared after a polygraph. Funeral set for Thursday in Ottawa with burial in Oakwood Memorial Park.

Navy sinks two North Vietnamese torpedo boats off Haiphong
Two American ships Newport News and Providence with a Navy plane sank two torpedo boats near Hai Phong during a coastal raid. The action damaged a fuel depot and shore targets as Robison fired on coastal batteries. The raid followed a May 9 foray and came as air strikes reached 220 missions despite tropical storm Cora.
