MCHS Board ends Dieringer's employment after district action

The Morris Community High School Board voted to terminate Charles Dieringer the business manager for Districts 101 and 54. District 54 had recommended dismissal citing failure to perform duties. He had been hired November 16 with a 14500 salary and was to divide time between districts.

Girl recants false accident report in driving test case

16 year old Georgiana Kiefling told Morris police that she lied about driver examiner William Wallin during a driving test crash. She admitted her sister in law influenced the false report and signed a corrected statement acknowledging Wallin’s account as accurate.

Coal City Board Rejects Rail Crossing Help Plan

The Coal City Village Board told a Santa Fe Railroad representative it will not share a 2500 expense to raise four crossings during resurfacing. Mayor Joseph Phillips cited the railroad’s longtime maintenance of crossings and a desire to avoid setting a precedent. The board also approved a 41430 general tax levy for May 1973 to April 1974, hired Blocker Brothers of Morris to start sewer cleaning at 300 a day, and approved a 225 tap bill for Buzz Livsey's water connection with Livsey to be billed the extra. The board accepted Kenneth Turner’s resignation from the Planning Board.

Coal City District approves earthwork contract and staffing

The Coal City Community Unit District No. 1 Board awarded Grundy Roadbuilders a 17 228 60 contract for athletic field earthwork and borrow excavation with a 5 cent credit per yard. The bid included notes on tiling curb work and final inspections. The board also hired Mary Jo Weitz to teach English and Roy Woods as high school custodian and approved a free lunch program for qualifying families.

Ford appeals after suit challenges Kankakee election law

A Circuit Court judge in Kankakee Illinois dismissed a suit by former aldermanic candidate Lilly Louise Ford challenging a city ordinance on how council members are elected due to lack of jurisdiction. Ford, who lost by 70 votes in April, said she will appeal the decision.

Beekeepers urged to warn farmers on treated soy fields

Grundy County Extension Office release advises beekeepers to notify the farmer and applicator of hive locations when pesticides toxic to honeybees are used on soybean fields. Colonies should be loosely covered with wet materials for one to two hours after treatment.
