President Ford selected Sen. Robert Dole of Kansas as his running mate after days of rumors. Dole, 53, a World War II veteran and former Republican national chairman, has a long political career and a personal history of injuries. Youth injured in car bicycle crash on Pine Bluff Road
A 13 year old Morris boy was treated at Morris Hospital after being struck by a car on Pine Bluff Rd. Robert Slater of Riverview Court was riding a blue Stingray bicycle when the collision with Vito Danese of Gladys Ave occurred. Slater sustained a cut above the eye and a knee abrasion. Danese's Opel wagon had minor front end damage.

Trucker Killed In LaSalle County Crash Near Seneca
A Bethany truck driver, Terry Marlow 25, died from severe burns after a fuel tank explosion when his semi collided with a westbound car driven by Hugh Hicks 25 at a stop sign on Illinois 170 three miles south of Seneca. Hicks survived with injuries and was hospitalized at Morris Hospital.

Fire destroys Wright furniture store in Pontiac blaze
A downtown Pontiac fire destroyed the Wright furniture store and badly damaged a nearby hardware store. The fire began in an elevator shaft and prompted evacuations as crews from Pontiac and nearby towns fought the flames with ten units. Firemen inhaled smoke and one was treated for cuts. No damage estimate was released.
