Energy saving tips for the kitchen during wartime
Cornell University and the New York State Energy Office offer kitchen energy tips. Use flat bottom utensils, match cookware to burners, avoid extending beyond the burner ring, keep lids on, turn heat down after cooking begins, and finish with residual heat. Use minimal water, plan menus to cook multiple batches, and avoid opening the oven. Gas ovens should not be used for extra heat. Small appliances save energy. pressure cookers cut cooking time to one third.
