Illinois flood damage estimated at 50 million dollars
Gov. Daniel Walker said flood losses across Illinois from spring rains total about 50 million dollars, with 25 to 30 million in current flooding. The Mississippi crest nears 29.5 feet, threatening Quincy area levees while McHenry County and Algonquin face rising floodwaters and evacuations. Rock River recedes as 200 to 250 dwellings were flooded at peak, with Black Hawk Island still submerged and 30 families affected.

Indian dies from Wounded Knee gunfire aftermath
Frank Clearwater aged 47 died in Rapid City hospital from a head wound received last Tuesday during a heavy exchange between federal officers and AIM followers at Wounded Knee. Eleven people, including two federal marshals, have been wounded since the occupation began 58 days ago. His widow Morning Star, three months pregnant, said she hopes for burial at Wounded Knee and confirmed the couple were not AIM members.

Seneca Rat Run Creek improvement approved by state leaders
The Rat Run Creek project in Seneca received authorization after passage in both houses and Governor Walker's approval. IDOT says bids for maintenance and improvement will be opened May 1. Construction runs from Main Street area to the Illinois River to allow the council to upgrade sewage disposal to EPA standards. Easements have been secured from adjacent property owners.
