Morris City approves Anderson family land for park

The Morris City Council voted 7 to 0 to buy 18 to 19 acres behind U.S. 6 from Cohenour Upholstery to Dr. Or tiz office for a new city park at $2 500 per acre. A survey will fix exact acreage and annexation follows purchase.

Indictments Upheld In Grundy County Grand Jury Actions

The Grundy County Grand Jury indicted Roland Stott a former deputy sheriff and Stott's Body Shop owner on three anti trust counts to bring his total charges to six. Three other indictments charging theft and engine related crimes were returned against Stott with arraignments set May 1. Lester Sellers was indicted on three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and faces a May 1 arraignment. Mark Goodlet was indicted on criminal trespass and theft involving a vehicle and money taken from Otis Kiger with bail set at 2500. Authorities testified in the cases including Sheriff Button and Police Chief Lynes.

Coal City approves street repairs funded by motor fuel tax

Coal City Village BoardVote to use 38000 from motor fuel tax for street work passed unanimously. Final approval from the Illinois Department of Highways is required before bids. Scouts to lead Keep America Beautiful Day cleanup drive

Rainbow Council of Boy Scouts and Trailways Girl Scout Council sponsor a Saturday litter drive in Will Grundy and Kankakee counties with about 4000 scouts and leaders. Gardner Village Board Accepts Treasures Resignation

The Gardner Village Board accepted treasurer Charles Brownlee’s resignation and will choose a replacement later. A motor fuel tax of 892.57 and a sales tax of 2375.54 were reported. Plans for a sewer leak smoke test were discussed, with an inspection planned.

Streator Youth Sentenced for Theft

Streator youth Kenneth Roach, 20, was sentenced to six months in prison by Circuit Court Judge John Massieon after a Feb. 15 theft of about $30 from Broadus Circo Service Station at 1006 W Main St. LaSalle County State's Atty. Robert E. Richardson announced the outcome. Frank X. Yackley handled the state's attorney's office.

Truck crashes into Seneca overpass injuring driver

A 41 year old Washburn Illinois truck driver was in fair condition at Morris Hospital after his empty semi hit an interstate overpass in Seneca at 1:40 am. Eugene Larimer of Diamond Red semi ran off the road then struck a center pier causing $8000 damage. Larimer was ticketed for improper lane usage.

Joliet couple loses custody over alleged child sale

In Joliet Illinois Judge Angelo Pistilli grants custody to foster care for three Flynn children after the state accuses Michael and Rita Flynn of selling their 12 year old daughter Rita Jackie for 26000. Harold Miller a University of Illinois Chicago graduate student is charged alongside the Flynns in a conspiracy to participate in child abandonment. The couple from Bolingbrook and Miller from Oak Park face Wednesday arraignment.
