Morris district school board results reveal incumbents toppled

In Morris area elections on Saturday new faces won three year terms across several districts. Jack Kutches and Joy Parnell captured Morris Community High seats while incumbents Davenport and Santa Cruz were defeated. Other districts including Morris Grade School Coal City Goodfarm Minooka and Newark each elected new or returning board members with canvassing to follow.

Joliet Junior College Trustees Winners in District 525 Race

Incumbents Robert A. Kiep and Aubrey A. Wills were reelected to three year terms on Joliet Junior College Board of Trustees District 525. Raymond A. OConnor a former college employee also won a seat. Top vote getters led throughout counting with Wills finishing ahead by over a thousand. Dow led Morris precincts but trailed overall. Bols Wins Minooka Township Supervisor Seat After Discovery

A Saturday morning discovery at the Aux Sable Township Minooka Fire Station shows Bols 340 votes to McEvilly 338 with a 339 tie. The discovery has no legal effect on the result but allows a recount petition in Grundy County Circuit Court. McEvilly said he may decide on continuing with a recount petition.

Plan to discuss school ordinance at Morris Grade School Board

The Morris Grade School Board of Education meets at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin School. The session opens with board organization and canvassing election results to seat the new board. Officers including a president will be elected. Other items cover district feasibility studies, air conditioning, bus contracts for 1973-74 and 1974-75, and the resignation of Mrs. Muriel F. Burt, Garfield School first grade teacher, effective year end.

City election slate tops Morris race with four alderman seats

The Morris city election will fill mayor, city clerk and treasurer plus four alderman seats. Republican candidates include Donald Caisley Sr for mayor, Marjorie Warren for city clerk, Robert W. White for clerk, and aldermen John Maunder, Donald Barkely, Elmo Ray Younger, Robert Gilbertson. Independent Glen Hutchings seeks third ward alderman on the ballot. Polling places open 6 am to 6 pm at City Hall, Masonic Temple, Telfer’s Printing, and Hexdall's Garage.

University expert to show Morris visual environment film

William R. Nelson Jr. of the University of Illinois will present a videotape on Morris visual environment at a 7:30 p.m. community meeting in the First National Bank Building. The program Our Visual Environment aims to spark local discussion and action on environmental quality with a daytime town tour and an evening critique.

Woodcock urges UAW to push pensions and overtime in talks

UAW President Leonard Woodcock told about 1,000 union officials in Ottawa Illinois that negotiations with automakers should stress larger pension funds and voluntary overtime plus contracts renegotiable if government controls rise. He opposed new controls, urged free market principles and warned against government pricing of meat with a call for tax reform as alternative.
