Director Date Carishan announced that Saturday evening concerts will begin promptly at 8 o clock for the remainder of the season. In summer longer evenings delayed starts to 8:16, but shorter evenings now suit 8 PM begins. The program is not yet fixed, but the high school girls sextette will perform a special song.
A full house at Moravia Methodist church hosted A Night with Seth Parker last Sunday evening. United Brethren and Methodist choirs joined director John Howard to present a pleasing entertainment featuring Seth Parker and a cast led by John Howard with D. E. Bishop and L. H. Beery in multiple roles.
Bill Mein brought a team of colored kittenball players to Moravia from Centerville Friday evening and won an 11 to 0 verdict in a four inning game due to darkness. Moravia, hampered by eight free passes to first base for the colored Inds, could not overtake the deficit. A rematch is anticipated to show Moravia’s improved showing with players listed as Moravia: Paul Broshar, Anderson, Isays Winsler, Irelan, A. G. Broshar, Pearl Broshar, Orelup, Dotson, Law, Kaasten.
Hiatt family members gathered at City Park Centerville Iowa for their annual reunion on Sunday September 3 with 187 in attendance. Officers were elected led by President J Allen Hiatt and plans made to meet again next year. Distanced relatives traveled from Phoenix Buckeye New York Omaha Oskaloosa Knoxville Atlanta and Seymour among others.
Public health notes calm amid Ephemiec Renaissance outbreak in St Louis metro area. Though over 200 cases reported regionally, officials emphasize most people avoid illness. Epidemic Encephalitis has old history with rare incidence. Control relies on three weeks isolation and home screening.
The Martha Foster descendants gathered at Centerville city park on Sunday September 8 for a second memorial picnic since her death five years ago on September 2. About 87 attendees enjoyed a bountiful meal despite a minor scare from yellow jackets as tables were prepared. J H Foster and family missed the event, while many grandchildren attended. J P Foster’s family was fully present.
Superintendent Oliver G Irelan reports Moravia Public School opened in fine shape with 239 pupils enrolled. Of these 120 are in grades 1-8 and 119 in high school. grade totals include 19 in grade 1, 13 in grade 2, 18 in grade 3, 9 in grade 4, 13 in grade 5, 13 in grade 7, with the rest in other grades. The weekly Union contribution to the News Basket is expected to debut next week for 1983-34.
Announcement of Mia Virginia Turley and Grable H. Mitchell wedding in Elkton Maryland on August 27. They reside at 904 Ripon N W Washington. Mrs Mitchell is granddaughter of Olive Miltenberger and niece of Mrs J F Albert, who have visited here many times.

Mr and Mrs J W Halden spent Sunday at the Berry Halden home in Chariton. The U B Church lists dinner offerings for September 18 including roast beef fried chicken gravy mashed potatoes slaw green beans sliced tomatoes sweet potatoes cottage cheese head butter and apple sauce.
Brown reunion will be held at Main Grove on September 10. Callen reunion canceled by bad weather and rescheduled for next year’s last Sunday in August at Main Grove south of Moravia. Officers Mayme Callen president and Mrs Haley Scott secretary will hold over for another year.
The Moravia Public School gym hosts the first Parent Teacher Association meeting on a Monday evening in September. It serves as a reception for teachers and invites all parents to attend to foster better understanding with a 10 cent dues membership. The room with the best attendance wins a picture kept until the next meeting. Officers: president Mrs W W Slaughter, vice president Mrs D K Gyelup, secretary Miss Doris Schneider, treasurer Mrs Grace Main.
Moravia residents recall events from September 6 1926. Tarae E Jordan 71 dies suddenly at his Moravia home. Moravia clubs sponsor a community reception on Friday night with speakers Congressman Lloyd Thurnton and State Senator Lloyd Billy at the 28th Fall Festival. Local poultry houses report eggs at 27 cents a dozen. Mr and Mrs V W Tracy and son Billy move back to Moravia from Troy Massachusetts.
In September 1908 Mrs. Blumenstock and Mrs. Clark hosted a reception for Miss Elizabeth Trussell and Lloyd Walden amid an engagement announcement. Rev. Mursell from Fort Scott was secured to fill a church vacancy after Rev. H. O. Ross resigned. J. E. Hancock reported selling eight pianos in three weeks.

Townsends plan move to Minnesota and J W Irwin moved their household goods this week. John Anderson accompanied him on the trip.
B Johnson president of the Ma yavia Fall Festival and Farmers Institute calls final testing prior to the event for Friday at 7 30 PM. The meeting, likely in the new community building, requires all committees to have reports ready by then for final arrangements.
Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. led by M. H. Johnson Superintendent. Election of teachers and officers followed by a short program. Prayer meeting Wednesday at 8 p.m. Women's Missionary Society meets with Mrs. C. N. Moin Friday afternoon.
The Moravia Moravia Booster Trip will depart Saturday at noon from Bivin Feed Store with the Moravia Public School band performing at stops. Many business people and farmers from Moravia and nearby towns expected to join in cars and one large truck. Enthusiasm grows for the 28th Annual Moravia Fall Festival and Farmers Institute next week with additional festival plans advancing. A Friday meeting at 7:36 p.m. likely in the new community building will finalize officials and committees.

The Iconium Circuit Sunday School begins at 10 a m with Ralph Turner as Superintendent and a Young Peoples meeting at 7 p m led by Guy Argo. An annual teachers reception, midweek services, and special music mark the week ahead, with the Annual Conference starting Thursday Sept 21 at Fairview. Morning worship and homecoming events feature speakers Hon George Milani and Mr John Miller, with Epworth League activities and lay delegate election announcements.
Moravia defeated Centerville Legion Juniors 3 to 2 on a sunny Sunday. Moravia pitcher Underwood allowed 4 hits while fanning 15, and Centerville’s starter yielded 7 hits and 16 strikeouts. Moravia tallied in the fourth, tied in the seventh, then added a final run for the win.
The Fairview school house held a Sunday homecoming with over 800 attendees on the lawn. Friends from Bloomfield Unionville Centerville Moravia Albia Blakesburg Ottumwa and Fort Madison joined a large dinner and afternoon program of gongs readings and talks by old timers. Hart Underwood urged annual reunions and the vote was unanimous for next year on the first Sunday in September.
The Sunday Mail trains are discontinued effective September 10 with eight Sunday runs halted. No mail will be dispatched or received from the office. mail received after 6 p.m. Saturday will be held until Monday. Misa Helen Reich visits Chicago to see her brothers and attend the World’s Fair.
The Fairview church held its annual reception for teachers from the vicinity on Tuesday evening with 105 attendees. Pres ent were Vera Boshak Vera Kayter Daphne McDanel Bonnie Burton and Robert Foster among current teachers. former teachers included Mrs. John Foster Mrs. Kenneth Gladfelder Mrs. Bert McKern Mrs. Burton Mrs. Beadie Boshak and Rev. Zerbe. A community sing followed and the Boshak sisters Vera Vera and Mrs Ewing performed. John Miller of Albia spoke on Pedagogues Pupils Patrons and Parents. Coffee and cake were served afterward. Dean McCrery and Richard Golabher arrived from Des Moines Friday to visit home folks.
