Weekend Visits and Farm Work Notes in Russell Darby Home
Sunday evening visitors included Jake Huber and his wife plus the author at Russell Darby’s home. Monday evening Carl Cloved and wife visited Zell Wilson. LeRoy Wilson and the author took Donald W. Darby to Atlantic where he will teach this fall and winter. Darby was a Thursday visitor at Jack Keeton’s in Albia. Zell Wilson threshed clover Monday yielding about one and a quarter bushels per acre. Russell Darby ran the machine and later hauled two veal calves to the Albia Sale for Pearl Hiner. He also delivered a feed mill to Ervin Long. Rain on Sunday hindered field work slightly and cooled the air. Mrs. Russell Darby helped Zell Wilson’s family cook for clover hullers on Monday.

Sampling soil across fields for representative testing
In taking soil samples, avoid covering large areas. Even on uniform fields, not more than seven tests should be represented by a single sample. Sending samples in a timely manner speeds up lab recommendations.
