The New London Journal urged readers in its editorial to avoid bitterness as the election nears. The Union reprinted the piece warning campaigns will grow harsher and friendships may suffer, urging cooperation, workplace effort, and choosing a candidate without making enemies of friends before November 8.
Senator James E. Watson describes the proposed home loan bank as a means to prevent mortgage foreclosures and help builders by providing cash collateral for mortgages. The system would enable longer terms and lower interest rates, aiding mortgagors as installments falter.

Unionville boasts a new business house with Harrington family ties and local figures like Mrs Myrtle Harrington and Mrs Ruby Underwood noted among residents. The piece covers a restaurant rebrand by Mr and Mrs Minor Scott, radio dealer Minoy, and a visit by Mr and Mrs B F Thorn of Los Angeles during a six month England tour, plus church events, meetings, and community activities through October.
Leona Kaster reports on rural West Point activities with Halloween decorations and a nature study hike. Perfect attendance earns praise for Leo Sytsma Irene Sytsma Veda and Beulah Dodge. County Superintendent Mr. Roberts visited recently as report cards were issued.
This week closes our second month of school with examinations on Wednesday and Thursday. Perfect attendance and pencils for four weeks of spelling were awarded to Dorothy Morrison Billy Carter and Ralph Davis. Activities included Columbus Day discussions Halloween art, new classroom furniture and posters, and a party in honor of Eunice Calhoun. The seventh and eighth grades finished studying North and South America while the second graders progress in reading and arithmetic.
Dorothea Darby Foster reports only fifteen scholars currently enrolled with four moving away recently and one new pupil, John Harrison, entering in eighth grade. Opening exercises include singing and reading Rover Boys on the Great Lakes as visitors Supt. Roberty and Miss Parker from Des Moines shared remarks last Tuesday.
A fragment from Elmora school notes recounts a Halloween themed display with pumpkin faces and jack o lanterns in windows and black cats. Students Duane Dimkin to Beulah Dunkin are listed with grades and perfect spelling by Verna Vitke.
Hurdell Roberts reports eighth grade times books finished and a citizenship race tied. Students Burdell Roberts Mildred Roberts and Deena Roberts scored 8 or higher on recent grades. Books from the State Traveling Library include Bobby of Cloverfield Farm and Little Women.
George Darby family spent Sunday in Madrid Iowa with O H Darby kin. E G Sincox family moved from Foster to Batavia Iowa to run an oil truck for Standard Oil. Jack Madison family moved from Foster to near Knoxville Town. Maggie Harrison and family moved into Elva Hawk home in Foster. M M Darby delivered clover seed to Blakesburg. Leonard Wilson and wife visited Zell Wilson. Valley residents shopped in Moravia and Attica. farmers begin corn gathering.
Local notices list visiting families from Hiattsville, including Sanders, Carter, Hiatt, Jones, and McDonel households. Guests shared Sunday meals, Sunday School class gatherings, and a Halloween themed evening with music, games, and dainty refreshments. Rev. B G Hawkins of Redrick visited Moravia.
