Slovakia Bunion publishes Thursdays by K. and W. T. Smith. Subscription rates: one year in advance 1.50, six months 0.75, three months 0.40, single copy 0.05. Entered as second class mail matter at Moravia Appanoose County Iowa under the Act of March 1879.
The Union warns readers to listen to and dismiss rumors concerning candidates as the general election nears. It cautions that gossip crosses party lines and is often the work of dishonest politicians. such chatter should be ignored.
Mrs Kermit Rose visits Milton Iowa this week. Kenneth Hiatt injured his arm by cranking a Ford. Nes C Turner of Moravia visited Coulson and Callen homes. Mr and Mrs M E McDanel called on relatives at Centerville. A W Martin and children spent Sunday night at Hiatt home. The Hiatt and Burton and Bowart families plus Carlson and Allen households visited Hiatt and Carlson homes. Mrs Theo Allier spent Tuesday with Mrs Carlson. Mrs Neff and Matilda Burton helped quilting. Des Moines Carter children visited Sunday.
Sunday visits filled with family dinners and hospitality as Moravia residents hosted relatives from nearby towns. The Hiatt and Coulson families shared meals, while Labor and Tucker crews built a new flower house for W L Hicks. Berniece Scott's illness briefly paused teaching, and a Friday night Sunday School social at Lloyd Rose's featured games and refreshments.
In rural district reports, Mrs Grace Lane and Mr McCracken visit as classes reach steady attendance. Grades share updates on readers maps and geography projects while a two month door contest, Harvest decor, and a ghost parade enliven school life. Attendance remains at 100 percent with various field trips, readings from Little Lord Fauntleroy and A Dog of Flanders, and community events noted.
Vera Boshak reports the Blue Front School opening on August 2 with thirteen students: Billie Long, Clair Woodward, Ronald Woodward, Helen Hamilton, Enid Long, Donald Jones, Lyle Jones, Roy Woodward, Jock Long, Lazelle Williams, Mary Marie Williams, Ella Jean Woodward, and Verna Jean Cline. The class shows perfect attendance among several pupils and lists daily routines, phonograph songs, stories, flag salutes, and various classroom activities including a Columbus sand table scene and autumn decorations.
