Rays Ramblins notes Moravia residents are learning the town water system lowers insurance costs. Two dwelling policies were billed before and after the rate change. One policy originally invoiced at 32 dollars later reissued at 20 dollars, a savings of 12 dollars about 37 percent.
This week another premium is due with a renewal cost now 44.28 after the water system installation, a 31.10 saving or about 41 percent. Planning had claimed property tax increases would be offset by insurance savings, a trend evident for most properties. A transition of the former Showers rural school into a Fairview community center shows strong community effort and could inspire local activists. The Moravia community building sits idle much of the time and could be modernized for more activities.
Sunday dinner guests at the Roscoe Argo home included Perry and Glen Brown of Knoxville and several Systma Johnson families from Harcourt Ft. Dodge New Sharon Eddyville Albia and Os ka loosa. An open house honored Robert Jennings 50th wedding anniversary in the afternoon.
Julie spent last Monday evening at the Orman Whicker home. Mrs. Rosecoe Argo accompanied Mrs. Ben Pickrell to Ottumwa Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Les Derby called at the Roscoe Argo home Sunday evening. We extend our sympathy to the Sheldon families. Those attending his funeral services from here Sunday afternoon were: Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Argo, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McFatridge and Mr. K. C. Potts, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Argo called at the Leo Hoffman home Monday afternoon.
Mrs Theo Miller and family host and visit neighbors in Albia and Keokuk. Fluently listed are drives to Ft Madison Albia and Monroe County Hospital visits, meetings at Nelson Ballanger and Perry Mikels homes, Tupperware party, and weekend guests from Des Moines Des Moines and Ottumwa. Neighbors including Mintia Shoemaker Ina Miller and Marion Clayworth figure among many social calls.
Local job board shows a union seeking workers and encouraging readers to join, with notices highlighting hiring needs, benefits, and contact details for applicants. The ads emphasize solidarity and opportunities through organized labor.
A birthday dinner for Jennifer Dunham was held Sunday at the Russell Brown home with guests including Elaine and Joyce Christy Pearl Broshar and others. Debbie and Jennifer Dunham planned a weekend visit, while Deepest sympathy was offered for Bert Sheldon's passing.
Saturday evening visitors at the Wayfie Christy home included family and friends. Carol Christy was a Sunday dinner guest at the Fred Christy home. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Robert Jennings on their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Meat Dicks, Mr and Mrs Russell Brown, Mr and Mrs Wayne Thompson and family, and Mr and Mrs Dick Brown and Brad.
Mr and Mrs Loren Smith of Biggsville Illinois visited all day Sunday with daughter Mrs Peg Renwick and family. Mr and Mrs J N Osborn were visitors at Bob Strunk home. Gerald Burton and Bob Strunk made business calls in Knoxville. Mrs Flora Phillips and the Callen girls spent Sunday in Keokuk. Several families attended a CA meeting at the high school Monday night and a birthday party for Sally Martin.

An agricultural field test compared medium and high fertilizer rates at varying plant densities. Plots used Haig alley clay soil with eight 38 inch rows 180 feet long, at 12 000 to 20 000 plants per acre across 15 plots. Center rows were harvested for yield and moisture, with lime applied to all plots and treatments including plowdown starter and sidedress fertilization.
