Appanoose County to appoint assessor Friday

The County Conference Board met in Centerville to appoint a new assessor after Lloyd Rose’s resignation of 12 years, but postponed until Friday. Four applicants passed the State Tax Commission exam: Ruth Tucker Nancy Moore Marvin Condra and Jack Martin. The board will interview them Friday to choose the successor and may consider naming a deputy as interim until replacement.

Methodist Circuit to Hear Sermon on Spiritual Accounting

The Rev Lawrence Jones director of stewardship for the south Town conference of the Methodist church will speak at Moravia Methodist circuit morning worship services His sermon titled Spiritual Accounting closes a month of stewardship and tithing emphasis Covants on tithing and stewardship will be presented in the offering at all three services.

Moravia School Education Week Open House Thursday Night

Moravia Community School district patrons are invited to Education Week observances from November 5 to 11. Highlight is Thursday November 9 with 6 45 to 8 00 p m visitation in both buildings and a program in the high school gym hosted by criminologist Mr Peter Tanis discussing discipline in the home and drug awareness.

BESSIE KASTER FALLS AT CALIFORNIA HOME

Mrs. Bessie Boshak Kaster of 5415 Allan Street Los Angeles California fell in her yard Saturday and was found unconscious by boys passing by. She was taken to a hospital and remained unconscious for a time and is thought to be improving. She will be released in several days to go to the home of her daughter at 914 Harley Avenue Downey California.

Club members host dinner party with rook prizes

The E T C club and husbands dined at 6 30 Thursday evening at Mr and Mrs Gerald Morgan home. Hosts were Mr and Mrs A O Main. After a delicious meal, rock was played with high prizes going to Lee Hiatt for the men and Mrs Lee Hiatt for the ladies. A social hour followed.

Harlan Horner Visits Brother in Moravia

Harlan H. Horner of Albany New York has been visiting his brother Presley K. Horner for a few days. A University of Illinois graduate he attended the homecoming celebration on October 20 21 and 22. He is retired from educational work and writes books. He plans to take his sister Mrs Flossie Tarr from Fort Madison Iowa home with him for a visit. Both were born in Moravia.

Moravia School Music Program Draws Large Crowd

A large crowd filled the school gymnasium Friday for the Moravia fall music concert. Featured were a precision flag-swinging drill by Harrington Argo VerSteegh and Boblenz under Wayne Burghoffer, the boys choir coached by Mrs Katheryn Campbell, and a lively junior high chorus performing Catch a Falling Star. The kinder garten presented Our Beautiful Flag while the girls glee club explored Lady of Spain with percussion.

Moravia 4-H honors crown Martha Rouse top girl

Martha Rouse, a Moravia High School senior, was named the county’s most outstanding 4-H girl at the Albia banquet. She received a cedar chest engraved with her name and honor from Peoples National Bank. Larry Bettis was the most outstanding 4-H boy, earning a wristwatch. About 470 attended the Tuesday evening event at Albia High School auditorium. Shirley Calhouney, Mark Vanters, and Linda Ammons were also recognized in various awards.

Donald West and Jerry Boblenz are among four Moravia 4-H members winning the Chicago trip award at the Appanoose county 4-H banquet held Tuesday evening at Centerville Saint Church. Over 200 attended. other honorees include Ruth Henrick, Karen Shepard, Linda Irelan, Mary Sue Moffitt, Joanne Main, Becky Wilson, and multiple award recipients across categories.
