Attorney Keith Cash filed a motion with the district court at Albia in defense of Vosburg school district against the Moravian district reorganization. The motion will be submitted Friday and the hearing is scheduled for Wednesday Oct 9 before Judge Taylor.
The Twentieth Century Reading Club met Tuesday at Mrs Charles Coffins home for its first fall gathering. Twelve members attended a cooperative noon dinner followed by regular meeting led by Mrs Coffin who preached. The program featured letters from former members and a roll call recalling a summer highlight. Attendees included Mrs T R Gardner Yakima Washington Mrs Earl Rabuck Lebanon Ohio Mrs Wilbur Harris Lohrville and Mrs A G Masofi Ottumwa. Mr and Mrs Russell Plughes were called to Richland Tuesday evening when Mrs Hughes mother Mrs Nichols suffered a stroke.
The first of ten weeks of adult classes will be held at the school house tonight Thursday at 8 pm. A Valley Supply Co representative will demonstrate farm welding for the men while ladies learn table setting. Refreshments will follow the meeting.
October 15 is the deadline for farmers to apply for the feed-wheat exemption program. Under the rule a wheat allotment under 30 acres can grow up to 30 acres for on farm use without penalties if the farmer signs an application at the county ASC office showing intended disposition. If seeding begins after October 15 1957 without signing, eligibility is lost. Mrs Edna Hiatt of Marion spent Friday and Saturday with the Hiatts.
C. W. Brown of Des Moines has become manager of Moravia Farm Supply Co starting Oct 1. He previously served two years at Inwa Farm Supply Co in Des Moines. The Brown family plans to relocate here soon. they have two sons aged 17 and a married junior in high school.
The Moravia F F A dairy judging team Terry Martin Charles Argo Lester Dooley and alternate Bill Benz traveled to Waterloo with instructor Bernie Valentine. They judged six dairy breeds and placed third overall earning bronze while Benz earned a gold rating for showing and handling cows.
The Junior Missionary of the Methodist church will meet at the church on Wednesday October 9. Cheryl Hughes will be hostess for the gathering.
The Moravia Garden club met on September 25 at Virginia McDonoughs home with Grace Veach presiding. Sixteen members answered roll call with a vegetable recipe. Plans were made to attend the flower show school in Indianola on Oct 2 3 4. A table for Thanksgiving theme was accepted for the Ames annual meeting and holiday show on Nov 14 15. Virginia McDonough showed films of prize winning arrangements and the Christmas story before a silent auction. A decorated cake honored Grace Veachs birthday. Mystery gifts were received by several members and refreshments were served by the hostess and Mary Oehler ending a pleasant afternoon.
Eastern Star members attended the Centerville Friendship Night Tuesday evening led by Mrs. Leonard Palmer Mrs. Dwight Kincade Mrs. Dick Johnson Mrs. Zell Callen Mrs. George Scott Mrs. Johnny Main and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dicks in the guest list of participants and organizers.
The Ladies Aid county convention meets Tuesday October 8 at the E U B church with registration at 9:00 and program at 10:00. A covered dish luncheon is planned at noon and guest speaker Mrs C E King of Albia. Mrs Anna Ullem of Boone, mother of the convention, is expected to attend.
On Wednesday evening October 7 at 7 45 p m Rev and Mrs W C Fowler Jr missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene in British Honduras Central America will lead a service at the Church of the Nazarene They have just arrived in the U S for their second furlough to fundraise for deputation They previously pastored in El Cayo and Belize and opened work in the Toledo district, teaching in Nazarene day schools and organizing three new schools A public welcome is extended to attend the service.
Mrs D E Bishop and Mrs Effie Gollaher hosted the Past Matrons club Monday evening at the Bishop home. All but three members attended the social gathering. Refreshments included angel food cake with ice cream and strawberries and coffee.

Mr and Mrs Forrest Hiatt of Newton called on his sister Mrs Curtis Burton Sunday afternoon. Preston Hedgecock visited Mrs Marvin Hedgecock at Centerville and checked on patient Esther Deahl at St Josephs hospital. Gene McClurg and children returned to Ames where he enrolled at Iowa State College opening Wednesday. Margaret Peterson returns to Denver after visiting family. Donnie Easter and children of Centerville spent Sunday with his parents. Members of Moravia Garden club attended a flower show school at Indianola. Lawrence Hinnie James Hinate and daughters Portin and Yoland plus Don Scott visited Mr and Mrs Charles Coffin. L F Bisby and daughter Delores of Brentwood Calif visited local residents. Several locals visited Des Moines to see Harley Tiste at the Veterans hospital. Kenneth OConner and family attended Baptist rally at Wellman. Lester Jones left for Uppland Calif after visit with Ulmont Mains family. Richard Butler of Fairfield spent time with Matherly family and attended Pancake Day. Charles Broshar and son Ronnie of Newton visited James Easter. Roy Matherly and Harold Van Dorin visited Mrs Raymond Witt in Kirksville Mo., a surgery patient.
Albia voters approved a bond issue of 282000 dollars on Tuesday to finance an addition to the existing school building. The measure carried by a 79 percent majority with 1312 ballots cast, exceeding the 60 percent required.
Appanoose county farmers face annual alfalfa and clover seedings contest. Entrants must be 1957 origin seedings from Appanoose County, submitted to the Centerville Extension office before October judging by an Iowa State College agronomist. The Alfalfa Banquet will be held November 21 at the Christian church basement with business leaders hosting and invitations issued to previous ticket buyers.
Invitations sent to Monroe County Farm Bureau members announce the County Annual meeting in Albia on October 21 at 8 pm in the Farm Bureau building. Officials will present policy resolutions, elect officers, and deliver reports. Howard Waters of Danville Iowa, IFBF vice president, will be the guest speaker.
Mr and Mrs Phil King of Che noa i came Sunday to visit their son Rev and Mrs Lynn King and children at the BE U B parsonage. Mr and Mrs Albert Vickrey and son Billy of Center Point spent the weekend with his sister Mrs Buell Taylor and family and with relatives at Centerville and Plano.
Russell Day outlined progress on the Soap Creek Telephone company plan in Moravia. ABEA loan of 250000 was granted with a second 250000 anticipated after further engineering. Nixon Engineering of Omaha audits system. after reports, a dial conversion loan will be sought from REA to rebuild the network with copper wire and five long distance lines.
More than 200 people attended the Moravia Community school district teacher reception at the gym Wednesday evening. Sponsored by Moravia churches, the program featured Moravia Unionville California Blue Front Ewan Fairview Pleasant Hill Iconium faculty introductions by Superintendent A R Fenton. The Rev Lynn King presided while musical numbers and talks followed the theme Jesus Increased in Wisdom and Stature. Refreshments were served by church groups with a large corps of helpers.
Marcia Walter, who has been recuperating at home from illness the past two months, was able to enroll in the third grade at school on Monday. Rainbow girls will hold their regular meeting Wednesday evening, Oct. 9, at 7:30. Betty King, W. A. Carol Day, Recorder.
