Skepticism remains about an oil boom, but indications are reported. Drilling draws spectators and community interest while weather concerns growers this fall after a strong crop season with many fields at maturity.
Farmers report soaking rains delaying harvest with bean yields once high now stalled in mud. Some fields left unharvested. costly rice tires aid combines but raise repair costs. Corn remains salvageable after freezing and possible snow. No scientific link to Rathbun lake weather.

Moravia Community School will offer adult education in cooperation with Indian Hills Community College. Programs include high school equivalency through the State Department of Public Instruction and self improve ment courses. Classes begin Dec 7, run Mondays 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. for 10 weeks, with a $10 minimum fee and extra costs for supplies.
Ray Rinehart hosted Thursday and Friday dinners at his home in Montana. Sibyl Whitehead attended Blanche Graham’s funeral in Moravia Friday afternoon and called on Margaret Cahen. Iboxes of candy and cookies were packed for servicemen by the Iconium W.SCS with help from Edith Callen Theresa Brown Doris Christy Maxine Sheldon Verna Hartz and Clara Brown. Multiple family visits and Sunday gatherings followed at several homes in Albia Centerville Knoxville Des Moines and nearby towns.
The Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Doyle N. Anderson Carl A. Evans and Arthur M. Streepy presiding. They transacted business including general fund expenditures and various county accounts such as prisoner care, hospital services, clerk fees, constable fees, postage and supplies, taxes withheld, and miscellaneous administrative costs for the county.
