Memorial Day events in Moravia include a memorial service at the Christian church followed by a cemetery parade with graves decorated. The piece urges honoring the hero dead and calls for world disarmament and lasting peace, noting WWI lessons and urging action to end future wars.
ENON Mr and Mrs Wm Giltner and sons visited relatives near Albia Saturday. Helping Hand club met with Mrs McKay last week. ten ladies attended and ice cream and cake were served. No meeting next week. W E and Wm Giltner were Centerville callers Saturday evening. Rev Orval Morgan of Albia preached at the School house Sunday. Several families spent Sunday with J L Dorin. Ice cream honored birthdays of R K S Faber and Lewell Van Dorin. seven teenth anniversary of Fred Van Dorin noted. Doyle Luse and Harold Hudgens helped J J Jones and J T Van Dorin with sheep. Commencement exercises at Moravia Thursday. graduates Clelia Jones and Wendell Roberts. J J Selby and Hiatt drove Mrs Howard Funkhouser to Chicago Saturday. their new Plymouth car was stolen soon after arrival. A Dorin and Mrs Mary Cluster visited I S Faber and J T Van Dorin homes Monday.
A Friday visit by Ida Argo Grace Virginia and Eloise Argo to Clyde Dicks home follows two weeks of Truxton Dicks farm work. Residents attend gatherings in Mystic and Melrose areas. Ralph Turner and Jessie Potts wed and plan to live on a Moravia farm. News includes illnesses, planting progress, new moves to Melrose area, births, and social club activities with Clover Leaf Club meeting hints and upcoming quilting.
Families and neighbors from Unionville route 3 gathered for a noon dinner and spent the day visiting. Several residents including Mrs Emma Ray and Mr Robert Robey were thanked for hosting. Multiple calls and visits extended through Moravia and Hiattsville as locals traded and socialized.
Zell Wilson helped his father plant corn Friday and Saturday. Mrs Alec Johnson appears on the aink list but is mobile again. Alec Johnson traveled to Moravia Saturday forenoon. Mrs G R Darby and Dorothea and Donald were business callers in Albia Saturday. H A Campbell loaded a truck of veal calves at the G Rt Derby farm Monday. Zell Wilson sheared sheep Friday with Virgil Harper of Moravia handling the work. Andrew Sytsma of Albia passed through Sunday en route home from his father Hen ry Sytama south of here. Homer Newburn was in Moravia Monday. Roy Darby of Centerville home Saturday for dinner then returned Saturday evening. Katrena Sytama visited Dorothea Darby Friday afternoon. Dorothea Darby with Katrena Sytama visited the last day of school in Moravia Friday. Everett Anderson and family visited Sunday with his sister in Foster. Dorothea and Donald Darby and their mother attended Moravia commencement Thursday evening.
Church notices announce Bible School at 10 a m Divine Worship and Communion at 11 a m Christian Endeavor at 7 p m and Evening worship at 8 p m Revival services are in progress with Rev Edwards presenting the Word of God Bring your Bibles and invite friends Robert Senth Minister
The Methodist Episcopal Church schedules Sabbath School at 9 46 a m and 10 30 a m with Dr W J Todd preaching at 11 a m and again at Wesley on 9 80 a m The Epworth League meets at 7 p m and evening worship at 8 o clock A Wednesday prayer meeting at 7 30 and a prohibition rally Friday in the park or at the church The message invites all to hear Dr Todd and to attend the worship services J C Bohrens is the pastor.
May 30 edition notes Sunday School at Hilton 1 at 9 20 a m and a revised schedule. Epworth League meets 7 30 p m with Miss Dorothy Marie Ellison in charge and a birthday cake marked 44 candles. A mid week service Friday 7 90 p m and County wide Boy s Club Wednesday at Albia. Community night June 2 at the church and Community Hall. Various parishioners visit and spend time with friends and families including Martha Massman, Helen, D 8. Fenton and Deliah Fenton plus several Tarbell and Moore family members.
Local residents shared visits and calls across Centerville Moravia and surrounding towns over the weekend. Highlights include Clyde Plummer and family in Centerville, Jeff Patrick in Tulsa, and multiple calls at the Ben Jones and M B Tisue homes with assorted relatives.
The United Brethren Church holds Sunday School at 10 a m and services at 11 a m led by Rev Donahue. A Children’s Day program is planned for June 4 with Marie Ochler, Osa Callen and Helen McCloud as committee. District Superintendent Rev Ira Hawley visits mid June for morning services and a noon basket dinner. afternoon services follow. Forrest Main, class leader, invites all.
Jay Argo and family were dinner guests Sunday at the Clyde Dicks home. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Massman and Helen were at Tom Massman's Sunday afternoon. Howard Fenton and children visited Donnie Fenton Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown and Le Roy spent Monday at Cap Dicks.
Mrs G E McCumber spent days at Fred Caltrain home last week and visited Emery Caltrain Jake Stocker of near Blakerburg waited at Gomer Stocker home Thursday. Several calls occurred Saturday evening at Milo Selby home. Garrett Harn of Albin and Ezra Coltrain were recent visitors. Gene Smith and Miley Lockman hosted Sunday visits. Hert Kirk family viewed Lake Wapello. Gomer Stocker and Mrs Ezra Caltrain visited Tor Cathey home in Ottumwa Sunday. Cathey is seriously ill and known as Mrs Alice Arnold locally.
Main Station residents and relatives from nearby areas gathered for visits and church events. Clifford Pfannebecker graduated in Moravia, Edna Pfannebecker stayed with kin in Albia, and many families stopped by the Willie McDanes home Friday and Sunday. Mrs. Ed Whicker was hospitalized in Centerville with improving condition.
Local social notes record visits by Mrs. Will Bivins and son Carl and Mrs. Alice Sanders of Moravia at Chester Sanders. Centerville guests include Mr. and Mrs. Earl Foster and Earn est. May 14 saw Denia Glasgow and James Creech visiting Will Mof fatt. Earnest Foster passed eighth grade exams. Reports of family visits to John Clayworth, Neighborhoods around Plano, Charley Boyer, and Centerville birthday gathering for Mildred Roby with multiple relatives present.
Sunday services begin at 10 15 a.m. with Ralph Turner as superintendent and worship at 11 a.m. Memorial sermons and grave decorations follow at Tconium and Salem. Lunch plans likely at noon. Mrs Jeynette R Mann will speak for the dry cause at 2 p.m. and local township groups are listed. County and district events include Boy Scout Field Meet, Memorial Day services May 30, and Epworth League activities in June.
