The council heard that the job is too time consuming for one official and Loyd Carter is slated to take over clerk duties. Carter brings government experience from service on the county board of supervisors as Memorial Day approaches with reflections on loved ones and national service. Albia and Centerville receive praise for reviving their economies, while Moravia contemplates town aging and movement toward urban centers. Retail tax data confuse readers, but Moravian sales for the quarter ending June 30, 1969 show $547,546.
Three Moulton Udell graduates Sherry Spring Lucy Pace and Susanne Long are honored with valedictorian salutatorian and prom queen titles as Miss Long is named Prom Queen Dale Lindley is King The report also mentions visits from Bernard McGee and Joan Scieszinski of Des Moines and various church and school gatherings across Ottumwa Centerville Moravia and Unionville with attendees including the Long and Walker families and notes on mumps and missionary efforts.
Cyril McDanel returned home Friday from Iowa City after four weeks there. Francis Argo of Oskaloosa and Bill Clark family visited the McDanels over the weekend. Kevin Daniels and Roger Zintz came home from Lake of the Ozarks with the senior class. WSCS gathering at Mrs. Ernest Hiatt’s hosted by Flora.
Mrs Daphne Shepard reports a small Sunday School attendance of eleven. Arthur Shepard celebrated his 68th birthday with a harmonic performance of three church hymns. Neighbors visited with Arthur’s birthday. Delores and Daphne Shepard assisted. Floris Knopf and California guest dined with Delmont Moffitt’s family. Wayne Walker and Eva Rinehart joined siblings for a Wednesday visit at Lawrence Ball’s. Ryman McDanel was a Friday dinner guest of his sister and husband Russell Shepard. Molly Milani and Barbara Rich were mentioned in passing.
Friday night saw Lori Phil lips honored on her birthday with friends including Mr. and Mrs. Dick Baldwin and guests from Saginaw Michigan. Numerous callers visited Merrill Shepard and Howard Phillips homes, while transport to Des Moines and Iowa City occurred for hospital and convention events. Families such as the Beaty, Dudley, Coop, and Moffitt households were mentioned among the social rounds.
