Old English Church of Interest to Americans
An article in the Montreal Family Gerald notes London's ancient Hoathwark cathedral, called the Church In the Hole by locals. It recalls Shakespeare’s services and Edmund Shakespeare’s burial, and mentions John Harvard’s 1607 baptism there. Alumni rebuilt a chapel at Southwark cathedral, the sole English church hosting a Fourth of July celebration. A memorial window for Shakespeare now honors his visits.

Submarine Exhibit at Century of Progress Fair
A gigantic submarine once a Navy pride is slated for display at the Chicago Century of Progress World’s Fair, placed in the Fair’s lagoon area. The vessel, once known as the 849 and scrapped in 1982, was bought by the National Marine Exhibiting Company for exhibition, reflecting postwar disarmament debates and a noted cost of $3,000,000. Local movers Willam Barnes and family plan a move to Albia while public discussions reference the Missouri Compromise and Senatorial debates over Maine and Missouri state status.
