April 2 1940 Moravia council passed a motion approving bonds for C T Foglesong and Lew Hiner for the ensuing term. Revaluation of John Laws property reduced to 4000 for 1940 taxes payable 1941. Assessments books read and approved. Mayor appoints Harold Hudgens street commissioner and cemetery caretaker for the term. Various salary and expense items listed. Charles Erickson Corwith school janitor found a muskrat in the furnace room one evening. Unable to catch it he closed the door for the night. The next morning the muskrat had gnawed a hole and was stuck. Students released it to a swamp east of Corwith.
The King Theatre in Albia announces a May lineup including Mickey Rooney in Young Tom Edison on May 8 and 9, Ginger Rogers with Joel McCrea in Primrose Path, John Garfield and Ann Sheridan in Castle on the Hudson, and Jean Arthur with Fred MacMurray in Too Many Husbands.
