The 1940 Moravia High class drafts a humorous final will listing names and quirky bequests such as dignity, talents, looks, and social skills. Several students transfer abilities like basketball, musical talent, driving, or flirtation to classmates and friends, reflecting a playful yearbook tradition.
The document records a series of last wills and bequests naming beneficiaries such as Louise Rouse Lucille Johnson Medora Hawk Mary Ellison Lorene Tadlock Virginia Callen Dorothy Kenton and Howard Derby. It notes various items and traits being left by Crystal Callen Dorothy Hiner Mary Margaret Borstman and Bernadine Bishop among others.
The Moravian school band is invited to the 11th annual Register and Tribune carrier convention in Des Moines on June 10. The day includes Riverview Park, municipal pool swim, a three ring circus, and a large noon parade with 60,000 spectators expected. High school bands from across the state will provide parade music and enjoy free entertainment.
Enon and Rita with Hilbert Roberts and family visited Guy Roberts. Fred VanDorin and Vera spent Sunday at R. 8, Faber's. Marie Tomlin and Rex Tisue wed at the Tomlin home Sunday. Arthur Shaw, George Shaw, Clara Selby, J T VanDorin, Leo near Avery. School to close Friday with basket dinner and program. Betty Hiatt spent the weekend at Rodgey Gideon's.
Hudson Case of Waverly planned to raise chickens to pursue ambition but a brooder house fire destroyed the building and all chickens, also burning the trailer where he lived. Only his night clothes survived. Jim Hatfield of Malvern bowled two perfect games that week with 48 strikes in 45 rolls.
A writer recalls raising 17 chicks from 20 eggs, losing the rest to hogs in the garden. They aim to hatch 17 chicks again this year with a setting hen, a stamping hen, and extra runt chicks from the sister-in-law. Ledger notes show a 1981 poultry goal of 40,000 and 26 Pennsylvania roosters, plus April egg usage figures.
A freshman science class from My, McNabb visits Parsons College on Wednesday May 16. They will view the observatory telescope to observe the moon, Venus, and Neptune and tour the science museum with various trick gadgets.
The annual commencement chapel was held in the gymnasium Monday afternoon May 18 at 3 o'clock. The program featured Invocation by Willard Cloyed, a Sextet performance by Te Fidsta, Class History by Mary Margaret Horstman with a String Bass Solo by Rosemary Mai, and Class Prophecy by Bernadine Bishop.
Dorothy Mas, Margaret Burton, and Delbert Démiahou presented the Key of Knowledge at the school ceremony. Class sponsors supported the event with a reception and benediction led by Emily Free.
Second grade students shared transportation toys including trucks and a zeppelin and enjoyed flowers brought to school this week. Students Billy Broshat Jackie Ray Coltrain Barbara Main Marilyn Hiatt noted blooms such as red tulips and lilacs while fondly recalling a train ride to Mystic.
