Moravia High School to Hold Commencement May 20
Moravia will host its commencement in the Moravia high school auditorium on Wednesday evening May 20 with 38 seniors graduating. The baccalaureate service is set for Sunday evening May 17 at the same venue, Rev. Thomas Woodin delivering the address. The senior trip to the Lake of the Ozarks departs Wednesday morning May 13 and returns Saturday evening. The Union will publish pictures of the entire graduating class next week along with other closing activities.

New Teachers Hired For Coming Year
Superintendent Robert Wells reports faculty for the forthcoming term is shaping up with several new hires. Open positions remain in high school science, vocal music, and a sixth instructor. Boy Scouts Clean Native Plant Reserve
Local Boy Scout troop spent Sunday at the native plant reserve near Rathbun Lake with support from the Moravia Garden Club. They conducted preliminary cleaning to preserve southern Iowa flora. Area plans include opening to public use this summer. Marshall Perry has returned home after a stay at Monroe County Hospital.

Moravia School Boys Escape Serious Injury in Car Crash
Five Unionville youths from Moravia Community School escaped serious harm when a 17 year old driver Paul Ewing lost control near Unionville. The car overturned multiple times, sending the group to St Joseph hospital in Centerville with Jackie Martin remaining hospitalized Tuesday. The 1956 Chevrolet was destroyed.

Grace United Methodist W S C S Hosts Fellowship
Grace United Methodist Society of Christian Service hosted a May Fellowship for women from Salem Iconium Fairview and Wesley Chapel churches on Friday at 9 30 a m about 55 ladies attended. Mrs Faye Luse welcomed guests and Mrs Janet Dowd led the program comparing flowers and people. Flower songs were sung with Mrs Grace Whitehead at the piano. Moravia Girls Win Bluegrass Conference Track Meet
Moravia and coach Alex Macy led the Mo ravia girls to first place at Corydon in the Bluegrass Conference meet. Moravia set a new conference record in the 440 yd relay and multiple athletes earned top finishes including Vicki Van Dorin with a discus record and Jean Rouse in sprints. Amy Lockman of Albia Manor was hospitalized April 30 in Monroe County.
