Mrs. Lew Hiner holds a possible local spring bass record after a 6th bass at Lake Keomah, often beating husband Mr. Hiner in catches. An athletic banquet at the high school, funded by the Athletic Promoters, drew a smaller crowd than usual but signals continued local sports interest despite many athletes being home on a spring farming day.
The Rathbun lake region sees heavy visitor traffic on weekends as crowds flock to the area. Locals note large boat activity, including Kenneth Condra of Moravia with a pontoon boat. Moravia plans a new Rathbun guide brochure with much artwork finished and slated for printing in two to three weeks at the Union office.
Mrs. Earl Swift and Mrs. Clair Long met Mrs. Edward Baker in Des Moines while she stays with Coy Swift in Monroe county hospital. Local families hosted and visited relatives including Pickrell, Argo, Sheldon, Calhoun, Perry, and Derby, with service members Terry Adock and John Hess listed among attendees.
Money spent Sunday afternoon at Larry Derby's. Mr and Mrs Richard Eastlick and family were Sunday dinner guests at the Sam Eastlick home. Mr and Mrs Pearl Runnells spent Saturday at the Delbert Calhoun home.
Mrs John Stevens took Shoemaker to Albia last Friday. Mrs Ertest Hiatt suffered eye injury from fertilizer last Monday and needed pupil dilation. Verda Argo of Oskaloosa and Verna McAninch of Centerville visited the Miller home. Herb Boblenz collected 14.85 for Cancer fund. Mintia Shoemaker Elsie and Lillian Callen visited Eva Hiatt for her Sith birthday. Albert Turner and family to Iceland. Mintia rode with Daniels to Moravia. Wyoming Pine Bluffs Post reports blizzards with 8 inches snow then 6 inches, freezing temps, power outages and mail delays.
Dale Cox was a Friday dinner guest of Mr and Mrs Burdett Cox. Mrs Dale Cox and family came after school and as were supper guests. Other visitors during the week were Pastor Paul.
Lobb and Terri Dallas Easter Steve Burger Dianna Burger Kenneth Wright Michael Dommer and Paul Cridlebaugh visit. Deeta's birthday celebrated with Burdett Cox and wife hosting several local friends during a string of calls visits and hospitality. Multiple calls with John Irelan Mae Harper Roy Lockman and others. Otto hospital note. John Deere plant tour by Nyle Cox and friends. hickory logs hauled to Spencer Iowa by Burdett Cox and Dale.
HIATTSVILLE news note by Mrs Wayne McDanel lists attendees at a Moravia Mission Study including Virgil Dooley Clell McDanel Kenneth Daniels and family. Also mentions Saddle club trail ride and funeral services for Bill Woodward with sympathy offered. Mrs Tom Pettibone out with blood clot and wishes for recovery.
Toe County people gathered for family visits and celebrations Saturday with Dr. and Mrs. DeWayne Robinson hosting, a surprise party for Bill Long at his home, and numerous relatives dropping in from Albia Ottumwa and Des Moines. WSCS district meeting attendees included Mrs. Edrie Phillips Mrs. Kenneth Hiatt and Mrs. Virgil Dooley in Oskaloosa. Kim McDanel spent the afternoon with Wayne McDanes.
Mrs Nadine Dommer and Jay Taylor hosted a supper at the Buell Taylor home with Vietnam buddy Bill Hetland. Neils Penfield family, Jim Knapp and Ka Brina attended Loren Walter dinners. Delbert Grey family called Sunday evening. Kenneth Coltrain family at Dennis Wright and Diane Johnson wedding in Moulton. Juniors and Seniors banquet attendees listed. Sherry and Susan Coltrain visited. Buell Taylor visited Oliver Wright and Ray Lockman. Edna Ward at district meeting in Oskaloosa. Buell Taylor attended the SCA meeting. Edna Ward and Janie with Carl Rouse and Sammy attended a Paint party at Dennis Kelley’s. Laurence Dommer visiting La Vern Horn. Burdette Ward mentioned.
Sunday visits and weekend gatherings are noted among residents including Janie and Rod Passarelli with Mr. and Mrs. Jewell Ward in Cedar Rapids and Delphia Back visiting Mount Vernon. Several dinners and hospital stays are recorded with Faber and Klampe families, plus a fifth wedding anniversary celebration for Don and Mary Klampe.
