The Annual County Music Festival in Centerville featured Extine Moulton Miystle Cincinnati and Moravia with grade choruses and specials. Moravia performed two part singing and a rival trio while glee clubs sang city songs. rehearsals ran 9 30 to 12 00 Friday morning.
The Every Pupil exam will be the sole Academic test this week with the state contest on June first and second. District ranking will select top three per district to advance to the state test, emphasizing overall school performance over individual results until then. Exams cover Algebra Geometry Physics Civics English Correctness American Literature World History American History and General Science.
Charles Miller is taken to Davenport by an aviation craft arranged for his transport. The air ride marks his first airplane experience and follows earlier plans by J. A. Heim to call for him by automobile, which did not occur. Mrs Miller learned by phone of his safe arrival at 12 30 PM. Mrs Clarence Tyrrel and her children visited the Watts home Monday afternoon.
Moravia High School Speech Class staged three one act plays and specialties in the gym Tuesday evening. Under instructor Mrs Lyla Simmers the ensemble showcased strong performances from Dorette Gladys Lemaster Clelia Jones Miga Parker and others. Highlights included All On A Summer's Day Grandpa and Grandma at the County Fair Paddle Your Own Canoe and Orpheus Beethoven Joyful with a cast featuring Arlene Dodd Bonita Lagie Vera Boshak Forrest Lagie John Johnson and Roscoe Day among several others.
Baccalaureate services for the class of 1931 at Moravia High School will be held at United Brethren Church Sunday evening May 10 at 8 00 o clock. Rev S A Fisher pastor will deliver the address.
Moravia's three churches will observe Mothers Day with separate services Sunday morning. Union services planned in past will not be held this year, as each church conducts its own service with a dedicated program honoring mothers.
Rev. W. F. T. Evans terminated his pastorate at the Moravia Church of Christ last Sunday after tendering his resignation. He has served the church for three years, overseeing remodeling and spiritual upbuilding, and leaves many friends in and out of the church who regret his departure.
FLOM. Walker announces a series of Bible lectures and tent revival meetings in Moravia starting around May 16. A 40 by 50 foot waterproof tent will be used with ample seating as pastors laymen and sinner friends are urged to cooperate for truth and righteousness. Further announcements will follow.
Fire department rushed to the Cody Luse residence in Moravia on a late Wednesday afternoon to extinguish a roof blaze traced to a defective flue. Firefighter Claude Swaim entered the smoke filled attic with a hose and helped bring the fire under control, limiting damage to the roof of the E. J. Blair property.
Bert Turner has this past week received his Iowa State Embalmers license after passing the state board examinations earlier. He already holds a Minnesota license. Four members of Turner & Son are now licensed embalmers qualified to work as such.
The dental offices of Dr. D. K. Ore lup are now located at his residence one block west of the Methodist Church, moving during the past week from the Farmers and Merchants Bank building. Read his announcement in this issue.
Miga Ferne Humphrey hosted a mixed shower at her mother Mrs R Humphrey’s country home on a Wednesday evening in honor of her sister Mia Roberta Stewart. Twenty eight guests attended and refreshments were shared. Roberta Humphrey and Elbert Stewart wed Sept 28 1980 in Unionville Missouri at the Methodist parsonage.
Community members gathered for a pre wedding shower with about one hundred attendees who confronted the groom and presented treats. The bride and groom, well known in Albia, plan to settle there. Smith Drug Store and local shops promote Mothers Day greetings and gifts for May 10th. Mrs H E Watts visited Centerville on Wednesday. A Mothers Day gift and flower event was held at the Christian Church Saturday afternoon.
Mrs. Mary Hunter of Gasper Wyoming visited relatives in the area this past week. A former resident and former Miss Mary Sharp, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Sharp, was noted in connection with the social item. The menu listed chicken pie mashed potatoes scalloped corn cottage cheese pickles bread butter Sally Brown spice cake whipped cream coffee.
Hall Swaim of Morayia preached the morning service at the Miller Baptist Church southeast of here last Sunday. Reports reaching this office indicate he did a very good job and he is to be complimented on his endeavors in this line.
A dinner honored Mr and Mrs F W Wright at the E F Wilson residence on Sunday. Attending were Levi Wright A A Wright and families Doris Trix Harold and Lester Smith from Moulton R C Wilson and family Carl Cloved Zell Wilson Martena Childs Goatsville Mo. Afternoon visitors included Mrs Henry Willigme and daughter, Mrs M A Knapp and families Albia Gabe Johnson and family John William Johnson and Leonard Fletcher.
Charles H. Tye of Orange City Iowa a former Moravia superintendent will deliver the Moravia High School class of 1991 commencement address. He plans to meet as many former pupils as possible during his Moravia visit. The ceremony at the M E Church is set for Thursday May 14 at 8 90 o clock with the address Framing Youth.
Council accepted the resignation of councilman V. W. Tracy at the regular session Monday evening. No successor named yet and likely to be chosen at the next meeting. A public hearing on Regulation of Necessity related to the proposed sharing project was deferred to a later date.
The Senior Class Production titled Kicked Out of College captivated a near full house last Friday. The program featured a string of specialties and strong performances by Benbow and Gray among others, with Lloyd Fletcher Clarence Sheldon and Opal Bayer delivering memorable roles.
The U B Aid lists a dinner for Wednesday May 13 featuring breaded pork mashed potatoes green beans scalloped tomatoes pineapple carrot salad cottage cheese pickles core bread bread butter and coffee. The menu shows a complete plate with multiple sides and dessert choices.

Church notices list a Bible School at 10 a.m. and a Mother’s Day program at 11 a.m. Special music and readings will feature the program. Conveyances are offered for aged or infirm members. Contact Brother Muriel Johnson. The Christian Endeavor meets at 7 p.m. and the baccalaureate service is at 8 p.m. at United Brethren Church, Pastor S. A. Fisher.

Teonium Circuit reports Sunday School at 20 a.m with strong attendance including a men’s choir. Edward McCord led a fine young people meeting. Boy Scouts and community young people social follow. May 12 13 17 includes Bible show sessions Mother and Daughter banquet and county Sunday School convention with basket lunches and programs led by Rev J W Zerbe.
