Methodist youth banquet ends church attendance contest

About eight weeks after a church youth attendance contest the losing group hosted a full three course banquet at the Methodist church. Linda Coulson led the hosts and LaVonne Card led the guests with 31 youths, four leaders, a speaker, and guests from Ox Kaloosa. The meal featured pineapple juice, tenderloin, trimmings, cherry pie, ice cream, and cocoa. Richard Tomlin MCed the program featuring a nautical theme and readings by Merrill Coulson, Linda Coulson, Nancy Turner, Bobby Tomlin, and a vocal sextet.

Dinner Guests And Moves Among Local Families

Sunday dinner at the Frank Wilson home drew guests from Canada Louilla and local residents. Charles Jamisan will move to the Ralph Tuttle farm purchased by A Hale of Oskaloosa, then live with family before heading to Medford Oregon. Several families from Laredo Des Moines and Keosauqua visited relatives and attended events in Des Moines and Oskaloosa.

Fire destroyed the VanDorin farm home four miles east of Moravia on a Wednesday afternoon after the chimney had burned out earlier. Neighbors alerted Moravia firefighters who fought the blaze with multiple hose lines. only a few furnishings and personal items were saved. Community sympathy was extended to Mr. and Mrs. VanDorIn.

County School Meeting Held Monday Evening

Appanoose county school council met Monday evening at Moravia school with 40 attendees and full representation except one district. Supt Byers Udell spoke on the February Des Moines State Educational Assembly. Opal Callen Centerville shared highlights. A German band led by Mr Jesse Moravig performed. After a tour of grade rooms, refreshments were served in homemaking rooms by Moravia faculty led by Mrs Norris Price, Mrs Gerald Morgan, and Mrs Mildred Phillis.

Youths from six churches enjoy skating party

About 85 youths from six Evangelical United Brethren churches gathered at the Moravia rink for an evening of skating with counselors pastors and younger children bringing total skaters over 100. They sang choruses and noted every church represented before agreeing to hold another fellowship night on April 11. Churches represented included Albia Louilia Russell Chariton Seymour and Moravia, while Sewal and Norwood had no attendees.

Veach Farmall Festival Draws Hundreds In Moravia

A crowd of about 400 attended Veach Implement Co in Moravia Tuesday for the Farmall festival. International Harvester officials praised the event as among the district’s best. Demonstrations featured the new tractor line, TA control, quick hitch, etc. Paul Cridlehaugh set a 23 mpg record in the test drive then John Wilson with 22 mpg. Monroe County hospital board announced the resignation of Frank Shank as administrator effective immediately. Pat Gorman was hired as administrator and head nurse, to live at the hospital.
