Grace Methodist and First Christian Church share a Sunday schedule with 10 a.m. Sunday School 11 a.m. Worship and sermon. Grace Church hosts a 6 30 p m evangelistic service with missionary Tom Stix and his family speaking. Wednesday June 16 prayer meeting at 8 00 and WS CS dinner at 12 noon at Mrs Mearl Walters home. New officers installation planned.
Harold Gunderson of Iowa State College extension entomology notes a large overwintering population of corn borers in Iowa. Favorable weather and varied planting dates shift egg laying to June, with peak June 18 to 25. A single DDT spray of 1 and one half pounds per acre is advised during the period for field corn. more sprays for gardens and seed fields.
Master Sergeant Lawrence W. Stout announced volunteers are needed to form an Iowan Marine Corps squad in June. Applicants aged 17 to 32 will be processed in Ottumwa on June 22 and assigned to the San Diego recruiting depot. For details contact Sgt. Stout in Moravia on Wednesdays 9 to 10 a.m. or write to Ottumwa Marine Corps Office.
Mr and Mrs Richard Tubaugh hosted Tuesday evening at Basil Tadlock home. Connie Paris and Gene Judge wed at Melrose Catholic church with attendees including Basil Tadlock and Iva Strunk. Kirksville visit to Mina Dowd by Archa Walter. Various visitors and dinners at Andrews, Hoffman, Caster, Comstock, Williams and Wright homes across the weekend. Community residents Eleanor Burton, Karen Woodward, Donna Rae, Dixie Tubaugh, Joy Tubaugh, Ann Pettibone, Joan Pettibone, Gerald Hawk and families are noted attendees and hosts.
Local families from Centerville and surrounding areas share reports of guests and gatherings. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Williams host, Earl Foster joins praise and visitors like the Strunk, Tubaugh, and Andrews families. Junior High commencement attendees, hospital visitations, and birthday celebrations color a busy week in the community.
Pleasant Hill notes detail weekend visits and gatherings among Dicks, Clark, Moore, Callen, Christy, Woodcock, Dunham, Cahen, and Dicks families. Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Lake Wapello trips are cited, with multiple church and club activities and a hospital update on Roy Miller. Social visits extend to Litchfield and Centerville connections as residents attend meetings and picnics.
Mrs Emmett Derby hosts Vosburgh visit with Karen Rose and Monte in Ottumwa. Mr and Mrs George Hammond and Chauncey Cole families join Saturday at Wayne Thompson home. A weiner roast is noted. Melvin Miller and others are mentioned in transit.
