Community life slows for summer with few school events as many activities suspend for vacations. Paving work on the Hilton church to Albia connection advances this week, weather permitting, with crews finishing stub sections before linking to last fall’s progress.
North of the Hilton church edge of Hocking hill the highway may open by July 4. A man was harassed by dogs on the square while Moravia faces tornado season with warnings on radio and a proposed one long siren blast to signal take cover.
Supper guests at the Floyd Crabtree home Thursday evening. George Hellyer visited at the Hellyer home Saturday. Mr and Mrs James McCord and family of Holinois spent weekend with Mr and Mrs Edward McCord. Mrs Maude Whitehead visited with the McCord family.
Mr and Mrs Jake Firkins and others were social Saturday and Sunday across Centerville and nearby towns. Clarence Whitehead plans a move to a new house this week while taking his mother to Ottumwa for a check up. Bobby Whitehead relocated to his Centerville home Saturday and Glen Overturf returned from Town City with knee surgery noted.
The Appanoose Board of Supervisors met in regular session to consider a zoning petition for property described as Wa Agricultural to Commercial Diet Com 30' west of SW corner of Lot 3 Block 4 Heavenly Hide Away Subdivision in Section 15. The legal description includes boundaries and lines, and the board plans further action.
The Iowa County Zoning Commission, after finding proper publication and compliance with the Iowa Code provisions, recommended rezoning of the described property. A motion by Strhepy and second by Stricker approved the rezoning, with no objections at the hearing. Passed and adopted May 20, 1975.
