Virginia McDonough opens a new needle work department in the basement of McDonough's Gamble Store Moravia with remodeled space and a large stock including over 300 pattern and plan books, yarns, kits, and knitting supplies. Hospital News From Centerville Area

Mrs Lula Hiatt recovering slowly at St Joseph Hospital Centerville after a heart attack several weeks ago. Glen Fowler suffered a heart attack Friday morning at his home. He was taken to Monroe County Hospital at noon and then transferred to Ortumwa hospital for intensive care.

Clover Leaf Club Members Tour Des Moines

For the Clover Leaf Club May meeting a group visited Des Moines for a fun day. They had a style show and lunch at Younker's Tea Room then shopped at Merle Hay Plaza. Jerald Ballenger left Thursday May 29 for Fort Leonard Wood Missouri to begin basic training with the U S Army. Visitors from Billings Montana Mrs Jack Gear were guests of the Wallace Parmer family Wednesday and Thursday May 28 and 29. Mrs Parmer’s brother Jack Gear traveled with Mrs Gear. Mrs Parmer’s mother visited Amherst Junction Wisconsin this weekend for the Memorial dedication at the Amherst United Methodist church on Sunday June 1. John Dille of Gravity and grandson Ricky Morgan spent Saturday with Mr and Mrs Paul Broshar and saw other friends in Moravia. Gay Peterson of Darby Edith Johnson of Centerville and Aleda Simmons of Chicago visited Minta Shoemaker Sunday. Sunday evening callers at Minta Shoemaker included Eugene Cooper of Plano Mrs Wanda Murdy Mrs Lou Emma Palmer Mrs Genevieve Morgan Mrs Mary McClurg and Mrs Garnet Brain who attended the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville Tuesday for the Fifth District Auxiliary Legion picnic for the veterans there. Mrs Guy Vincent and Gaylan spent Sunday morning at the home of Mr and Mrs George Watson and son Timothy and had Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs Gib Gibson in Des Moines. In the Babe Ruth season opener Moravia White Sox fell 10 0 to Albia Royals Sunday afternoon. Moravia’s battery was Brian Harrington and Alan Tisue. K Garret hit a three run homer in the third with one on, then Gaffey doubled with the bases loaded to drive in eight in the fifth. Moravia had two singles by Bruce and J Tubaugh. Next game is at Souila Thursday night and then Albia Tigers at Albia Monday evening.

Detour Continues For Moravia Residents

Moravia experiences ongoing disruption as the main street from Hwy 5 into town remains closed for railroad crossing repairs. County surveyors have begun grading the main road through Moravia to connect with Unionville Pavement, with start dates for grading still unknown.

Lynita Bolin Weds William Brown in Bloomfield Church

Lynita Clarise Bolin and William Harold Brown exchanged vows Sunday June 1 1975 at Bloomfield United Methodist Church at 1230 PM. The bride wore a white satin gown and carried white spider mums on a white cross with pink and lavender ribbons while Denise Bolin served as maid of honor. A small reception followed at the church and a four tier wedding cake topped with a bride and groom stood near the head table. The couple plans to reside at 302 E Walnut Bloomfield after a trip to visit relatives. Out of town guests hailed from Des Moines Ottumwa and nearby towns.

Funeral services were held Monday June 2 1975 at 1 00 p m at the First United Methodist Church in Waterloo for A G Jim Broshar who died Saturday morning May 31 from a stroke He had suffered a heart attack Thursday followed by two strokes Interment was in Garden of Memories in Waterloo He was born November 18 1899 the son of Harve and Artie Mc Danel Broshar Survivors include his wife Gail two daughters Jean Catshall Marilyn Pape a son Gerald Broshar nine grandchildren one great grandchild two sisters Mia Alena Schreiner of Livermore California and Mrs Dorothy Turner of Moravia He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers Ivan Clair Chester and Rudolph Broshar.

Moravia Teams Start Season With Wins and Losses

Moravia high school softball and baseball opened strong with two wins in conference play. Girls fell 4-1 at Ottumwa on four hits and one error, while Moravia’s hitters included Kaster McBride Clark and Van Benthuysen. Freshman Sheri Easter earned her 21st win. Boys rolled Seymour 13-0 in five innings as Uhlenhake pitched a no hitter with seven strikeouts. Jeff McDanel and Jeff C. McDanel led Moravia at bat.
