Bus Driver Strike Ends Restores Service at Moravia

Burlington Trailways service was restored through Moravia on Wednesday after drivers settled a strike that kept buses off the highway for several days. The Moravia bus station is at Oehler Road, on Route 60.

Mrs Flora Jones hosted a family dinner Friday in Rockford Illinois honoring her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Bayard Neff and family. About forty relatives and friends visited during the day and evening to meet the Neffs and their children.

Charles S Argo World of Iconium is mourned

Charles S Argo 65 of Iconium died May 28 1947 after a period of failing health. He was born April 22 1882 on a farm near Iconium and lived there most of his life with his wife Blanche Swift Argo. He worked a harness shop and later a mercantile. he was a devout Methodist who joined in 1910. He leaves his wife five half brothers one sister and many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held May 1 at the Iconium Methodist Church with Rev Esther Bubb officiating and burial followed at Iconium Cemetery.

The Mora Board of Education hires two new elementary teachers for 1947 48. Clarence Sheldon of Iconium will teach seventh and eighth grades after years in rural schools and a stint at Pleasant Hill. Cleo Stansberry of Cincinnati will teach fifth and sixth grades with six years teaching in Cincinnati schools.

Taylor Toilers Meet at Pettibones

The Taylor Toilers held their regular monthly meeting at the home of Jerry and Ann Pettibone on May 27. Roll call names appeared as insect. the lesson covered DDT use. Plans for the 4 H Tour were made for June 29 at New Hope School with a noon basket dinner. Moravia Telephone Company announces a new rate schedule effective July 1 1947 to offset higher operating costs incurred since the war years. Urbana Center Bible School Closes Today

Miss Doris Parker of Grinnell and Miss Esther Hartwigsen of Sersnten teach the Vacation Bible school at Urbana Center. Twenty nine pupils are enrolled. The school will close with a program Thursday evening June 5.

Trains Run After Major Wreck East of Moravia

A Milwaukee Road freight wreck derailed 26 cars six miles east of Moravia Sunday at about 9 00 am. By Monday evening the line was cleared for traffic. No injuries reported though large losses to cargo occurred including candy, new automobiles, and tank cars.

Attendant was Mr and Mrs Wm Hershberger Moravia. The bride wore aqua blue with black accessories. Stocker, discharged December 1946 after 18 months overseas in the European Theatre, plans to farm near Moravia.

Golden Wedding of Mr. and Mrs H Lemaster

Mr and Mrs Harry Lemaster of Centerville celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday May 18 1947 at 405 E Van Buren. Burd Accepts Keokuk Pastorate After Moravia Service

Reverend W E Burd will move to Keokuk in late August to assume the pastorate there after nearly three years at the Moravia Church of the Nazarene. The Moravia church gained 56 percent attendance growth in the Nazarene Sunday school and paid off its parsonage debt this year. The Burd family will relocate with Stanley. Betty attends Marshalltown, Joyce enters Olivet College in Kankakee Illinois.

Polsone Operate Dairy Farm Near Cairo Missouri

Two former Moravians, Norman Polson and his wife Jessadine Laws Polson, are operating a dairy near Cairo Missouri. Norman taught social science and coached at Mora high school before teaching in Missouri. They moved to a farm west of Cairo with 25 Jersey cows, 17 milking, and run the milking machine together.
