Iowa spring brings rain dust and heat with a Wednesday heater fire and varied skies. Moravia stores stay open daily with evening hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Good Stake shows run Tuesday through Saturday at Moravia Theatre. The school band performs Saturday nights in summer. An ice box ad drew strong buyer interest with many inquiries after sale.
Rockford visitors join family gatherings around Moravia as neighbors note flood concerns in Eddyville and Centerville. Residents report subscriptions, local notes, hospital visits, and community updates across Moravia, Mystic, and surrounding towns.
The U S Treasury promotes honoring American fathers as Minute Men guarding family security. It urges regular purchases of United States Savings Bonds through two automatic plans, Payroll Savings and monthly bond purchases via checking accounts for self employed or professional dads.
Mr and Mrs Ben Jones visited Sunday at the Wendell Murdy home John and David stayed for a few days. Guests at the John Van Zante home Friday and Saturday were Rev A B Van Zante and Mgr Dieles Van Zante with Rev A B Van Zante returning from Grand Rapids Mid as a delegate to the General Assembly. The Van Zante brothers hosted visitors including Rev A B Van Zante and Dieles Van Zante from Seattle and Eddyville respectively. Rain persisted but appears likely to yield sunshine soon.
Homer Utterback returned Monday from Ottumwa where he attended the funeral of his brother Howard Utterback. The service was postponed from Saturday to Monday due to the flood disaster.
The Rev J Richard Sneed of Rockford Illinois formerly of Moravia will travel to Amsterdam Netherlands this summer to join the reconstruction department of the World Council of Churches. He will tour war damaged cities and return by air in September after spending the summer in England and on the continent.
Lavern and Gordon Massman visited Saturday afternoon with Donald Dicks. Mrs Clara Massman returned home Tuesday after visiting relatives in Chariton. Lois Edwards called Friday evening at George Hammond and Greg Penfield homes. Helen Massman visited Jean and Loraine Hammond Saturday afternoon. Sympathy extended to relatives of C. S. Argo of Iconium who died at home Wednesday night with funeral Saturday. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Clark and family visited Friday at Gilbert Callens. For community news send items to The Union. Mr and Mrs Roscoe Argo visited the Harry Lemaater home in Centerville Tuesday. Mrs John Moffatt and son Roy dined with Joe Lucas Jr. on Sunday. Mrs Arthur Lewis and daughter stayed a part of last week at the Roscoe Argo home. John Moffatt visited Neil LaMar home Wednesday forenoon to see A F LaMar who is ill. Several other callers at Otis Fuller home Monday evening and at John Bickford home in Moravia Wednesday. Mildred Bartles and Roy Moffatt visited St Joseph hospital Centerville Sunday evening to see Rozella Elliott patient there.
Last week’s items note Bob Thomas of Albia as a caller at the Coy Swift home Sunday evening. Frank Starcevic and John Moffatt couples visited Joe Luca’s, while Coy Swift and Dwight Runnells also called in Albia on Wednesday afternoon. Frank Starcevic’s wife called at Coy Swift’s Sunday.
