Community notes from Unionville recount a Methodist church family night with about 75 attendees and homemade ice cream and cake. Obituary reports Mrs. Wm. Wood died at Probasco Nursing Home in Moulton, funeral held at Baptist church with interment beside her husband in Eatog cemetery. Verner Hawk hosted a Tuesday club gathering with prizes won by Mrs. J A Price, Mrs. J W Proctor, and Mrs. Cecil Morlan.
At New Hope school on Friday May 24 a basket dinner drew 68 attendees including parents and friends. Pupils performed county chorus songs and a Junior Audubon Club review preceded pupil promotions. a list of guests attended and department cards were issued before closing on May 28.
Attendance at Sunday School noted many local visitors and family gatherings. Numerous residents including OConner Espy Perry Long MecKern Gladfelder Whicker Walker and others hosted and visited at various homes throughout the week.
Several from this vicinity were shopping in Albia Saturday. The corn planting is in progress nicely in this vicinity considering the weather. The Tick Ridge school closed Thursday with a picnic for the children and teacher. The O'Hara family attended the Albia show Thursday evening. Patty O'Hara visited Melrose high school last week. Rex Derby is working for Earl Swift while Howard Derby travels to Seattle for a truck drive. Various local visitors and Sunday remembrances follow, including Calhouns, Callens, Free, Thompson, and Perry households attending events and sales in nearby towns.
Many Ames residents and visitors are noted in a broad village roundup. Mr and Mrs M H Elson plan two week trip to Miami Missouri to visit relatives and explore the Ozarks while Ruth Jones travels to Kirksville for summer visits. Numerous social stops occur across Moravia Centerville Ottumwa and Ottumwa areas with relatives and friends from Des Moines Phoenix Arizona and Hollywood sharing meals visits and hospital stays.
Centerville and Ottumwa daily greetings show visitors from Osceola Montezuma and Des Moines. Birthdays at the Woodward home mark May celebrations while families plan trips to North Dakota and visits in Ames Newton and Humboldt reflecting a busy community calendar.
Sunday evening John Wilson entertained the Youth Fellowship Group of the Methodist Church at his residence with Mrs. Witherby and Mrs. McFatridge assisting as hostesses. Also notes Elmer Shake left for Albin Wyoming after six weeks with her father Seigei Pence who marked his 85th birthday Monday.
Kinser Valley notes describe G R Darby in Des Moines for his son's Indianola commencement. Blakesburg residents Mr. and Mrs. Charlie McCurdy visited Pearl Hiner, while Hilfard called on Willis Van Dorin. Russell Darby family dined with M M Darby. Weather brings rain and persistently cold conditions with more rain expected. Bayeen and Hazel Wilson families visited Willie Van Dorin. Also mentions CARBON SALESBOOKS sale and The Mornvig Union.
Entries from New Hope and neighboring areas note visits and gatherings among families. Mrs. Pearl Hunter and relatives join Frank Chambers for a birthday party. many locals attend dinners, picnics, and funeral services for W. D. Hall and Jerry Wells.
