In the northwest corner of the county a topless hay stacker attracts attention as a large bird-like figure atop is shot at. Other reports lament hot and dry weather and rising school costs about 80,000 dollars yearly. Local obituaries, visits, and social notes fill the page, mentioning Mrs. Sarah Arnold’s funeral, visitors from Los Angeles and Ottumwa, and a store reopening with coffee and donuts.

Ottumwa area residents including Teonium Hy Mra George Hammond and Jéfin McAninch were present Monday. Several couples and individuals visited relatives and friends Sunday and Monday, with many stops around the Brown, Dicks, and Albertson households. A Shanghai club party occurred Friday at the schoolhouse, and numerous afternoons and evenings were spent at local homes and with kin.
Alberta Archer of Burlington visited last week with Mr and Mrs Ray Mike. Freda and Carolyn Swift attended Thursday afternoon calls at Nona Dicks and Bruce were to Ben Pickerell s Monday evening. Mrs Ellen DeCoursey and Dolly visited with her sister Mrs Gertrude Shehan. Derby s one evening last week. Mrs Madge Calhoun and Donald spent Thursday afternoon with her father Jim Shehan Jr and Mrs Glen Turner attended the Turner reunion in albia Sunday. Mrs Norris Callen visited Sunday afternoon with Hattie Miller. The Carl Calhoun and James.
Calhoutt families and Coy Swifts visited Marion Allen and Mrs. Roney Summers while Mrs. Donald Summers and mir han visited their parents Mr. and Mrs. Roy ed the Archer reunion in Bloomfield.
The Moravia Town Council will meet August 1 1950 at 7 30 PM to hear taxpayers on expenditures for the year starting April 1 1954. A statement of receipts and disbursements, past and future, will be available at the hearing.
The Board of Directors of the Moravia Taylor Township Appanoose and Monroe County Iowa Independent School District will meet August 1, 1950 at 8:00 P.M. to hear estimates of expenditures for the year July 1, 1950 to June 30, 1951 and a detailed statement of receipts and disbursements past and anticipated will be available at the hearing.
