The Floravia Union is published every Thursday by H. K. and W. T. Smith in Moravia Appanoose County Iowa. It is entered as second class mail matter at the Moravia post office under the act of March 3 1879.
The Corydon Times-Republican comments on complaints that some men claiming need under the OWA are not truly needy and that families may suffer while others worthy are overlooked. It acknowledges faults in charity administration but urges not to condemn the entire program.
Dimmie Van Dorin and wife visited Sunday afternoon with the George Shehan family. Mrs Charles Selby and Dimmie ne Dorin and family called at the HD Darby home Sunday evening. J W Gohagan of Blakesburg and daughter Mrs M M Darby visited Saturday. Curtis Robinson called on the scribe Wednesday. W P Judge of Georgetown and Frank Spellman of Selection were in the neighborhood Friday representing the government as cornel sealers in this county.
Progress on the Albia to Foster road is advancing with plans to extend east to Blakesburg and south to Moravia. Local residents including Frank Thompson near Muntersville brought cattle to pasture in the Valley. Russ Darby oversees road work while Zell Wilson assists this week. Community programs and Christmas trees fill the valley area with events at Hazel College Elmore Foster School and Dolor Darby noted. Otumwa visitors included the G. R. Darby family and John Campbell from Moravia called on Zell Wilson.
Centerville area residents including Mr and Mrs Carl Tomlin Lillian and Dean Carl report Monday call events. Visitors Rolla Lockman Frank Lockman and family spent Saturday night in Centerville and Ottumwa areas. Ray Tomlin, new baby boy born Sunday morning December 17, noted. Ruby Hull visited relatives. Community Christmas program plans underway as teachers and pupils prepare.
Local residents list visits to homes across Rathbun Udell Centerville and Rockford and report condolences and support as Earl Purvis family rebuilds after a devastating fire. Several families including the McDanel, Sufficool, Gladfelder, Easter, and Whicker clans share Sunday and weekend gatherings and caring gestures.
Mrs Lawrence Ward visited Mrs Ezra Coltrain Saturday after noon. Lucile and Kenneth Coltrain stayed with Mr and Mrs Lowell Harris in Centerville weekend. Teachers planned a program at Omega school Friday at 8. Austin Jay went to Centerville on business. Mrs Von Tracy traveled to Chariton Thursday for tonsil removal and returned home Friday recovering well.
Moravia boys defeated Russell 26 21 after a slow first half as Burton with a sprained ankle and Kaster out with appendicitis reduced the lineup. A strong rally in the second half carried the team, while the junior and senior squads split results and prepare for upcoming games.

Evelyn Thyrza, born December 12, cheers local families, with multiple social visits reported among the Smith Giltner and Van Dorin households and neighboring farms. Loren Thompson receiving neighbor support closes the item.
