Nancy Benz, employee of Equitable Life Insurance in Des Moines, will perform with the Equitable choir on WHO TV a Wednesday evening program at 7 30. Benz is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Benz and a graduate of the Moravia high school.
The regular monthly meeting of the N.P.M.S. occurred Wednesday evening at the Church of the Nazarene with Mrs. LaVern Smith presiding. Richard Woodward led devotions before prayers, and Karen Warren presented a lesson on Missions in Mexico City.
Pvt. Waller Scott Jr arrived Saturday to spend a furlough with his wife Margaret and his parents. He completed weeks of basic training at Ft. Carson Colorado and will report to Ft. Meade Maryland on January 2.
Mr and Mrs Roger White welcome a son Bradley Jon born Dec 6 at Burlington hospital weight 6 ounces. Kay Over turf is the mother. Grandparents are Glen Over turf and Ersail White. great grandmother Myra Over turf Ottumwa. Also Mr and Mrs Pat Rogers of Yowa Falls welcome daughter Jan Rense born Dec 4 weight 7 lbs 5 oz. grandparents Ralph Ground and Mrs Frank Rogers. The Rogers have a 2 year old son Thomas Jeffry. John J Wilson III and wife Dinuba California greet son John Lory Wilson IV born Dec 3 weight 7 lbs 5 oz. sister Joan. Wilsons formerly lived near Moravia. they are grandparents Delbert Gray. Shelli Lyon born Dec 6 at Cullins hospital Knoxville. weight 6 lbs 1 pupees. Grandparents Loren Walter Oral Gray Lovilla. great grandparents Mearl Walter Fangie Callen Becca Gladson Lovilia. They have a son Brad.
Word arrives that Santa Claus will likely appear near the Max Hiner home in the town's east section Sunday evening with youngsters and parents invited for a short visit. Likely hours are 7 30 to 9 00 p m.
Moravia Eastern Stars held a cooperative supper at the Masonic hall at 6 30 pm with families. Officers were elected for the chapter and a 10 donation to the town decorating fund was approved. Mrs James Wilson was elected worthy matron and Loyd Carter worthy patron among others. Joint installation with the Masons is planned for January 2. A practice meeting is set for December 30 at 7 30.
A community note urges residents to submit Christmas decoration plans to the committee led by Mrs. Ira Boyer Mrs. Bill Woodward or Mrs. John Veach. The closing date is Saturday December 16. There are three divisions nativity traditional and door and window. The Booster club and Garden club offer a $40 prize for the best.
The Jolly Dozen Club met with hostess Mettie Roland on December 6 for a Christmas party and gift exchange. Clara Ireland won the high prize in Rook, Mrs Ira Boyer had the low, and Pearl Swaim drew the door prize. Refreshments of chicken sandwiches, cherry salad, coffee and candy were served.
Mabel Coulson slipped on ice while walking to Nadine and Georgs on Wednesday near the store. She was taken to the doctor but appears not seriously injured, though badly shaken by the incident.

A special program titled Mine Eyes Have Seen by Joy Lareen will be presented December 17 at 7 30 p m at the Fairview Church of the Brethren south of Unionville. Senior and junior high youth group members perform in a story about a blind mother witnessing to youths in the Christmas spirit. The public is invited to attend.
To aid Christmas mailing the Moravia post office will be open on Saturday afternoons December 16 and 23 according to Postmaster Don Pettibone.
The Nazarene church presents its annual Christmas program Sunday at 7 45 p m by the Sunday School. A cantata titled Love Transcending will be performed Wednesday December 20 at 7 30 p m focusing on the transcending love of God and the true meaning of Christmas. You are urged to attend.
The Moravia Methodist church hosts a Christmas worship at 7:30 Sunday evening at Grace church. The service features readings and carols with a marimba trio by Mrs Winslet, Mrs Black, and Mrs Guthrey, four choir numbers, and congregational carols. Members will light candles in the symbolism of sharing the light at Christmas.
C. E. Tickie Samson former county recorder and longtime deputy sheriff died after an auto crash near Des Moines. A World War II veteran and member of the American Legion and Masons, he was 60, born in Cincinnati and survived by two sisters and two brothers. Funeral services pending.
Harry Woodward won the gold watch door prize at the Vandorin Implement Co opening. The store is a newly appointed Norge appliance dealer and held open house Thursday night, Friday, and Saturday.

The Appanoose County Board of Supervisors selected Virginia Barbaglia as County Recorder succeeding C. E. Samson who died from injuries after a Sunday evening auto accident near Des Moines. Barbaglia has served as deputy recorder for 12 years.
Moravia girls beat Lovilia 62 to 40 as both teams struggled from the floor. Rouse led Moravia with 38 points while Gerry Morrisey paced Lovilia with 26 as the Mohawks lost 41 40 to Lovilia in the boys game. Next up, Moravia and Lovilia visit Fox Valley at Cantril Friday.
Adda Sheldon sustained injuries in an auto crash on a gravel Moravia road Saturday afternoon. Clarence Sheldon and his mother traveled from their home at Tconium while George Firkins headed to the Ralph Turner farm when two cars collided on the icy road. Both vehicles suffered substantial damage. Mrs Sheldon was moved first to Moravia doctor’s office and then to Albia hospital for further examination.
About 200 persons attended the formal opening Saturday of Moravia Produce in their new location on the east side of the Square. Refreshments were served. At drawing, Helen Underwood and Louemma Palmer won hog feed, Bert Rinehart and Merle Miller chicken feed, Herb Boblenz the thermometer. Swift butter went to Ruby Cloyed, Terry Prough, Darrell Cooper, Blanche Kincade and Oral Easter. There were several floral contributions.
