Twenty nine local F H A girls and advisor Miss Rinehart attended a Monday potluck at 5 30 pm as guests of the Centerville chapter. Osceola F H A girls joined. Moravia offered a humorous skit The Bridal Portrait with Mary Ellen Condra Kay Overturf Wanda Benz and Nancy Boblenz. A humorous song I Had a Little Ford featured Joan Fox Karen Woodward Carole Main Donna Woodward and Judy Smith. Charlotte McAninch reported on Moravia chapter activities. The group traveled by school bus.

Otha Taylor returned home Friday after several days at St Josephs hospital in Centerville. He entered University hospital in Iowa City Monday for observation and treatment. Buell Taylor took him to Iowa City.

Frank Paxston was discharged from University hospital in Iowa City where he had been a patient since October 24. He was brought home Friday in the Turner ambulance.

Walter Clark, formerly of Moravia, was returned to a Centerville nursing home from the University hospital in Iowa City where his leg was amputated.

Past Matrons Hold Annual Christmas Dinner

The Past Matrons club met at Mrs. Trenton Wilson's home Tuesday evening for a Christmas dinner and gift exchange. Band Mothers Entertain Faculty Friday at School

The Band Mothers hosted the school faculty for a Christmas party after the regular meeting at the school house. Decorations matched Yuletide, with Mrs. Coulson and Mrs. Woodward coordinating coffee. The Monroe County Chapter of the American Cheer Society announces a Saturday shoppers' matinee on December 10 in the courthouse ladies' room. Screenings of the film Breast Self-examination begin at 2:30 PM. The notice urges every woman in Monroe County to see the 20 minute program to learn life saving breast cancer detection.

Booster club president Russell Hughes says most Moravia shops will close at 6:00 pm on Saturday, December 24 and December 31. They will remain closed all day Monday, December 26 and January 2, creating two long holiday weekends.

Appanoose County farmers may file costsharing requests for 1956 soil and water conservation practices at community meetings arranged by the county ASC committee. The Jolly Dozen club held its annual Christmas party Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Charles Broshar. Rook prize winners were Cynthia Taylor and Mrs. Amy Lockman. Mrs. Frank Swaim won the door prize with guest Mrs. Josie Charity. Refreshments included open-faced sandwiches dessert coffee and homemade candy after the gift exchange.

Paul Turner Injured In Auto Accident

Paul Turner son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Turner was injured in a car accident Sunday night near the Lester Strunk home on the Moravia Unionville road. His 1955 Oldsmobile went out of control and stopped in a ditch with three flat tires. He walked away, later found near the Harry Glick farm. Monday he was taken to Monroe county hospital for X rays showing a broken collar bone and numerous cuts and bruises. Returning home Tuesday he is recovering.

Moravia Boys Split With Melrose In Tight Pair

Moravia's varsity and second teams faced Melrose Thursday night. The first game ended 32 24 with Melrose victorious. In the nightcap Moravia rallied to a 44 43 win after a late surge despite Melrose leading 43 34 in the third quarter.

Moravia Girls Rally To Split With Knoxville Here

Moravia hosted Knoxville Friday night and won the second game 66-54 while the first game went 33-28 to Knoxville. Condra led Moravia with 16 points, Day 10, Gardner 7. Easter and Martin each had 29 in the second game. Moravia led at every quarter, guards included Walker Overturf Scott Hiatt King. The teams travel to Troy Friday and to Moulton Tuesday December 18.

Moravia Garden Club Holds Cooperative Luncheon Meeting

The Moravia Garden Club met at Mrs. Jay Oehler's home on Wednesday at 12 30 P M for a cooperative luncheon. Twenty four members and one guest Mrs Andy Mosley attended. The 2 o clock business session opened with a prayer and the reading What I Want for Christmas. Five dollars was donated to the retarded children fund. Reports covered the state flower show at Ames and plans for the Holiday Fair and Christmas decorations with Booster club. A demonstration on Nativity scene decorations was given and mystery gift exchanges completed the meeting with a closing reading from Thes. 5 15 22.
