Christmas Grade Program Set for Dec 14 at High School

Four hundred forty children will perform in the annual grade school Christmas program on Thursday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Kindergarten groups open with songs, grades 1-3 present an operetta The King's Christmas Carol, grades 7-8 sing a group including Silver Bells and Christmas Gyro ls, and grades 4-6 conclude with a pageant The Symbols of Christmas.

Soldier Roger L Robinson Begins Field Training in Germany

Army Specialist Five Roger L Robinson 36 son of Mrs Lavera Robinson Moravia began a month of intensive field training November 8 with the Armored Division near Grafenwehr Germany. Training will stress communications combat tactics equipment maintenance and weapons firing.

Calf Consignment Dates Set for Winter Sale

The Appanoose County Beef Producers Association will sponsor a winter calf sale at the McCreary Sale Barn on Thursday, January 4. Cash-basis farmers may consign calves to support small herds, with no limit on consigned head. Dates for consignments are December 6 and December 20 at the Agricultural Building from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Members of the association will assist, and an advertising committee has been formed to promote the sale.

Clover Leaf Club Meeting At Fenfield Home

The Clover Leaf club gathered at Fern Penfield's home on Nov 29 for a co op dinner of ham and baked chicken. Mrs Pfannebecker Passes Sud­denly in Moravia Area

Elsie Henretta Pfannebecker born March 31 1883 Sigourney Iowa died December 3 1967 at Ottumwa hospital aged 81 years 8 months 2 days. She married Gus Pfannebecker on December 3 1908 and had seven children. Surviving are husband four sons Lloyd Clif ford Earl and Ralph and three daughters Emma Veach Edna Russell Ruth Johnson, 22 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. Funeral services were at Turner funeral home Rev Donald Plum officiated burial in Moravia Cemetery.

Music Program At MHS Friday Night Concert Details

The MHS music program hosts a joint chorus and band concert Friday at 7 30 p m in the high school. MHS Teams Roll Over Fremont in Easy Wins

In a Thanksgiving post game, MHS girls beat Fremont 67-49 with Claudia Miller scoring 32 and Janet Rhee recording 12 steals while Shirley Helmick 20 and Linda Hint 13 also contributed. The Mohawks boys defeated Fremont 66-38 led by George Woodward with 17 points and Gary Tisue 14, as all players saw action in the final half. The team shots 39 percent for the night and next face Fox Valley at Cantril on Friday, Dec 45.

Robert Potts was elected Worshipful Master of Moravia Masonic lodge at the annual officers election held Monday night after a ham dinner. Mrs Heth Hoblenz entered Davis County hospital Friday and underwent surgery Tuesday. She is improving and family members are with her. Mr and Mrs Leonard Palmer visited Iowa City Tuesday where Mrs Palmer had surgery on her left hand. Reed Uhlenhake returned home after ten days in Mercy hospital Des Moines following a fall. Donald Plum, lay minister of Albia, called Tuesday on Mrs Maude Coltrain, who is a shut in. Mr and Mrs R S Faber drove to Knoxville Sunday and joined Mr and Mrs Jack Lewis and Lora Ann to Winterset for visiting A C Thompson family. Mrs Melissa Felton returned home Tuesday from Ottumwa visit with daughter Mrs Bill Callen. Mr and Mrs J H Ward of Cedar Rapids spent last week visiting his brother Norman Ward and other relatives. Miss Zula Taylor called on brother Edd Taylor Thursday, who is slowly improving from injuries from a fall. Deer season slow but yields notable hunts in Iowa

Conservation officer Mark Ublenhake notes the deer season is below par overall with few seven to twelve point harvests. A standout group of 29 hunters on Tubaugh Bros. farms southeast of Iowa bagged one deer on Saturday and two on Monday totaling three. Pairings at Curls Mikels include Al Moravia licker and others like Kenneth Cal hous and Keith Gladfelder. Additional names appear but overall the season is weak.
