Local growers report excessive corn in fields with high moisture, leaving many puzzled about how to proceed. Wet conditions hinder harvest while advancing winter weather could trap crops in the fields, risking losses.
The report notes soybeans yielding 50 to 60 bushels per acre with many cut, plus a corn average of 147 bushels per acre after drying. A farmer mentions 88 acres and a mysterious hybrid yielding 1% bushels. A tractor sold locally ran only two hours due to lubrication holes missing at factory. Visitors Dorothy Thelma Calhoun and Stella Argo shopped in Ottumwa on Monday. Delbert Calhoun and Karl spent Thursday evening with Kenneth and Donald Calhoun. Mr and Mrs Edward Haver and Julie spent Thanksgiving at Richard Wakefield's Ottumwa home.

Dooleys from Centerville, Pettibone home visits, and Alan Dooley returns to college after Thanksgiving. Family guests and weekend calls recur among McDanel, Long, Daniels, Argo, and Fisher households across Oskaloosa Cedar and Junct ion City areas.
