Pleasant Hill brief notices list visits and callers among residents. Names include Mrs. Vera Moore, Mrs. Will Callen, Mayme, Georgia Pandurna, Frank Chadwick, Theda Tarbell, and the Darby family. Activities center on afternoons and midweek visits, with mention of travel to Madison for the World's Fair and Chicago trip.
Mrs Pat Haines from Red Oak visits relatives in the area while Frankie McVey returns from Des Moines. The Willing Workers club hosted an ice cream and cake evening at the Russell Brown home with many local families attending. Visitors included Mrs Pat Haines, Billie Turner, Miss Margaret Swift, and Mrs Jane Brown among others. several residents were noted visiting, calling, or hosting over the period.
Herman Johnson and family visited the Lillard home on Sunday. Harvis and Otis Stafford left Saturday for Des Moines to meet their father and travel to Minnesota for a camping trip. The Boardmans visited friends in Ottumwa Sunday. Kent family of Avery entertained at the Clarence Wilson home. Maurice Lillard and his mother visited LeRoy and Weldon on Thursday. Merle Ann returned home with grandparents Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Hatfield after visiting them in LeRoy. H. H. Smith and family near Albia visited M. B. Boardman Sunday. Leo Stafford stayed at the O. S. Miller home Saturday night. G. L. Cloyd visited Brampton Friday. Clifton Boardman attended the Homecoming in Icanhim on Monday.
In Albia on Saturday M M Darby and G R Darby called on local business interests and were joined by Everett Anderson. Mrs E Peterson of Flint Michigan visited her mother and spent Saturday night and Sunday in Albia and Chariton. M M Darby delivered timothy seed in Blakenburg Friday and G R Darby with his wife attended the Farm Bureau picnic at Cyrus Hall's home Friday night.
Unionville notes wide visiting by Alden and family to Missouri after a nephew Gail McDonald drowned in the Burlington reservoir. Des Moines friends Mary Hammitt and Sarah Travers spend time with relatives. extended family gatherings occur across Ottumwa Batavia Centerville Chicago and Oakdale areas with church events, reunions, and hospital updates.
Keith Fuller visits Carlysle Long. Oliver Elswick and George Bailey call at Jess Smith home. Hayes couple near Hayesville visit daughter Mrs James Long. John Ulem business call in Oskaloosa Ottumwa. Wilma Harsh stays with sister Mrs Cecil Parcel. Everett Mosler family visit J J Uiem. Leonard Smith family Ot tumwa Ed Giltner Agency Sunday visitors. Bessie and Arthur Donovan attend Century of Progress in Chicago. Trene DeLong near Blacksburg visits James Long. Jess Smith Centerville celeber Sunday morning. J H Rice attends Rice relatives reunion in Albia Sunday.
Enon and nearby communities record weekend visits and calls among residents. A. O. Van Dorin and others called on the Jones and Van Dorin households. The Hawks family headed to Chicago for A Century of Progress with related visits noted in Moravia and Knoxville.
Mr and Mrs Horton Potts and others visited the G KE Luse home on Friday evening for ice cream and cake. Eph Wilson and family hosted visitors and outings included Lake Wanella trips via Unionville Blakesburg and Foster. Several families attended picnics, church activities, and home gatherings with multiple calls and dinners noted among G E Luse O G Davis and Creech families.
In Mt Pleasant a flurry of visits and calls linked the Brown family. Ethel Velda and LeRoy Brown called Friday at Harry Robinson’s home. other Brown relatives visited the Earl Hurt and Glenn Brown residences. A Sunday pattern found W A Brown’s home host to Ralph Strickler and children with Zelda and Charles Brown joining briefly. The DeLong and Hartsock households also feature in Friday and Sunday afternoon calls. Arthur Brown left for Chicago Monday to attend the Worlds Fair as Mrs DeLong spent time with Howard Bosco. The Methodist Ladies Aid met with local families.
Mrs. Beneo visits grandchildren Doris and Laura Mae Besco with Mr. and Mrs. E. C. DeLong in the afternoon. Several locals attended the Homecoming at [eonium Monday, noting nearby participation.
Mrs Martha Adams spent Saturday at M Gillands. Curtis and Carl Tomlin made a business trip to Ottumwa Saturday. Raymond Lockman and Elvin Stocker were Sunday visitors at W T Trelan's with Mr and Mrs Ray Tomlin and Mr and Mrs Carl Tomlin. Lillian and Dean visited Wm Tomlin's Friday. Mr and Mrs P Gideon and Kenneth Coltrain visited Elmer Lockman Sunday. W Tomlin and family, Carl Tomlin and family visited Mrs Mary Tomlin's in Drakesville Thursday.
The afternoon sermon by Rev. Charles E. Pettit urged courageous leadership through faith, adaptation, and using available resources. Rev. Lloyd Tennant spoke on My Trip to Palestine at night as the church remained full through long services. Monday featured an Old Fiddlers contest with Geo Hamm family winning top spots, followed by a Kittenball loss for Shanghai to Icontum at 11:46.
A Moravia community event featured Kittenball contests from 1 to 6 pm with Main Station and Moravia girls victorious, a 200 plus artifact relic display, aviation views by C P Kerachner, and remarks by county leaders. The event culminated in plans for an annual Tri County Pioneer Day with officers named F A Tarr president and L Calhoun secretary among others. Attendance topped autos, with visitors from Des Moines and Cedar Rapids.
A list of towns including tumyya Sovilis Albia Melrose Charl ton Numa Cincinnati Mystic Macomb and Moravia is followed by a program by Walden and Main and the Dirty Seven of Moravia at 8 p m. Over 150 antes attended Teonium at night. The event features kitten ball for boys and girls and various field sports.
