On Tuesday west edge town saw paving progress then about three fourths inch of rain Tuesday night halting further work for now. Some farmers managed field time before rain but were rained out. Seeding nears and tractors may run around the clock if sunny weather returns. A large notice may be placed in Des Moines papers when highway work finishes.
The letter critiques US aid and involvement in Southeast Asia, recalls servicemen who died, and questions the domino theory. It notes Burma and Thailand visits during Cambodia bombing and warns Thailand could face a Communist take-over amid poverty.
Senior citizens meals announce options for Friday April 25 corn bread beans or macaroni and cheese glazed carrots salad and dessert. Monday April 28 scalloped chicken broccoli casserole salad and dessert. Wednesday April 39 liver mashed potatoes corn salad and dessert. Friday May 2 meat loaf potato casserole lima beans salad substitutions are sometimes necessary.
Members of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Women met at the Kenneth Daniels home for the April gathering. Twelve attended, roll call for spring plans noted, and Flora Hiatt opened with scripture and prayer. An invitation to a May Fellowship Day at Salem Church was read, with plans to attend.
Flora and Evelyn were tasked with mailing small bags from the group. Boris Boblenz led a lesson on child advocacy using charts to show national and Appanoose County needs. The gathering stressed foster homes and Day Care Centers, followed by a surprise baby shower for Carla Jean Daniels.
Mrs Ernest Peat visits noted along with Mr and Mrs Ernest Hiatt hosting and attending gatherings. The Boblenz and Hiatt families appear at a sales, a barn supper, and weekend visits in Des Moines Mystic and Anderson places with multiple relatives and friends mentioned.
More Moravia FHA Style Show winners are noted. A long list of visitors and guests include the Williams, Donovan, Faber, Starr families, Lawson siblings, Hedgecock and Parsons, and many others visiting homes in Moravia and nearby towns. Social calls cover dinners, hospital visits, and a surprise birthday party for Zola Saum hosted by Udell Brethren Church women at the Dew Drop Inn in Unionville.
