Moravia FBLA will sponsor a Hippy Hawkins dance on April 25 offering dancing and card games for non-dancers. A concession stand will be available. Advance tickets cost 50 cents per person or 75 cents per couple. at the door 75 cents per person and one dollar per couple. President Pamela VandePol invites attendance. Ellen Cooper
The senior class plans two April 26 games at the high school gym. The senior basketball team faces alumni while seniors also play faculty. Alumni who wish to participate should call Ronnie Van Zante or contact George Woodward. Family attendance encouraged. tickets are 50 cents per person.
English II classes studied short stories on challenge mystery survival and wealth with emphasis on interpretation of The Heyday of the Blood by Dorothy Canfield Fisher and The Interlopers by Saki. A class tests understanding with Julius Caesar by Shakespeare as Debbie Kelley notes.
School calendar lists Jr. play practices for both Moulton Udell and Twin Cedars with multiple dates. Sophomore ring review, Scribbler trip, track meets, and end of six weeks events. Activities include Jr. class and band events, science fair, board and council meetings, and an FBLA dance. multiple schools noted: Warren Seymour Corydon Moulton Corydon Lamont.
In world history class students study India and Southeast Asia. They learn the caste ladder from Brahmans to Sudra and untouchables, with birth determining caste and reincarnation shaping fate. Today Indian leaders work to abolish the system and promote equality.
Kevin Daniels, born May 10 1951 in Centerville Iowa, is a 17 year old student with black hair and brown eyes. He studies English TV speech government and welding with speech as his favorite subject and Mrs Tuttle as his favorite teacher. He is Science Club president in F B L A and participates in track football and the senior play. His hobbies include swimming and photography and he critiques elder exploitation of teen civil rights. The senior trip is a planned highlight of his high school senior year.
Mike Grinstead was born in Ot tumawa Iowa on May 15 1951. He is 17 with light brown hair and blue eyes. His subjects include book keeping Vo Ag IV economics American Government and welding. He is active in FFA FBSA basketball football student council and track. His favorite pastime is being with Linda and his pet peeve is loud mouths. Highlights include the junior and senior prom graduation and the senior trip.
Kaye Helmick born May 31 1951 in Centerville Iowa to Mr and Mrs Ernest Helmick. She has brown hair and eyes and names bookkeeping government and office practice as subjects. Her extracurriculars include band track softball basketball and FHA with sewing and dieting as hobbies. The senior year peak is the class trip and graduation.
Jane Estlack of Albia Iowa born October 10 1952 is an 18 year old senior with blue eyes and brown hair. She takes bookkeeping government sociology economics and home ec and participates in glee club chorus basketball softball marching band FHA FTA FBLA library science and staff. Sara Hersey born August 26 1951 in Manchester Iowa is 17 with hazel eyes and dark blond hair. She studies physics English IV advanced math American government and P E and joins girls athletics band chorus library club FTA FHA FELA science club and Scribbler while enjoying sewing drawing and oil painting.
Moravia Town Council met in regular session with Kilgon and Wilson absent. Minutes read and approved. Financial report approved. Various General Government and public works accounts listed, taxes and utilities noted. Meeting adjourned by Mayor Rex Angel. February 6 1969 minutes show committees unchanged and bills approved.
Moravia honors home economics teacher Linda M. Harris named Teacher of the Month. Born May 7 1946 she grew up in Moravia and studied at Center ville Junior College and N E Missouri State University, graduating in 1968. Harris and her husband David live in Moravia and she enjoys sewing javelines playing piano and steak. Her favorite movie is The Sound of Music and song Honey. She cites undependable people and constant study hall questions as pet peeves. She praises the student body and the new school while noting students should use facilities respectfully.
The Mad Scientists club met March 20 1969 in room 107 to discuss the upcoming Moravia High School Science Fair on April 19 in the school gym. Funds will be raised through pie coffee cookies and punch sales in the afternoon and evening. Bill Cortesic was named Science Fair planner and organized committees for working assisting judges and refreshments. All are invited to view the student projects at MHS and support the first Science Fair.
Donna Haws notes that shorthand students practice weekly to reach 59 percent accuracy at varying speeds for three minutes to determine eligibility for PM. They perform transcription tests twice weekly at speeds from seventy to one hundred words per minute.
Steven Hersey born September 7, 1950 in Mitchell South Dakota to Rev and Mrs Thomas D Hersey. He has light brown hair and green eyes. Courses include Physics Trigonometry Government Metals and P E Trig is his favorite subject. Extracurriculars cover FTA Science club football and track. Senior trip and graduation photo are his high school highlights.
Girls in Home Ec. 1 finished sewing A line styles peasant blouses skirts and flap colors for the FHA Banquet. Variations used cotton blends and linens. they now decide accessories while Mrs Harris guides final adjustments and practice walks down the hall.
Mantelpat Enterprises and Iowa Southern Utilities Co. appear for gas, electricity, street lights and labor payments. Officials vote to authorize payment of pledge orders for final payments and approve the actual expenditure report due March 1. Meeting adjourned by Mayor Rex Angel with Clerk Charles R. Turner.
The council discussed payment pledges for the pump installation and authorized the mayor and clerk to execute orders dated November 7 1968. They approved completion certificates, canceled cigarette permit 42965 for Rex Angel dba the Coffee Shop and issued a cigarette permit to Cora M Moffatt dba Moravia Coffee Boy. A Class B Beer permit was granted to William G Kauziarich dba Club Tit. Meeting adjourned with Mayor Hex Angel and Clerk Charles R Turner.
