Rites Held For W. C. DuVall 84 Retired Farmer

W. C. DuVall aged 84 died Sunday afternoon at his home after a lingering illness. Born October 15, 1884 in Appanoose County, he was the son of William J and Sarah Pence DuVall. Survived by widow Lois seven children and one sister, with seven grandchildren. Funeral at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday April 2 at Turner Funeral Home Ottumwa officiated by John Lowenberg. burial Hillcrest Cemetery.

Lee Benz entered Monroe County hospital for treatment in Albia on Saturday. Garnet Brain returned Friday from Des Moines where she attended the KRNT Music Festival with 13 hundred city and junior high voices and a 60 piece youth symphony. Debbie Dagle, a Lincoln high junior, participated. Dr. Allan Lehi of Drake University conducted. Ted McDonough on 30 day leave from Vietnam visited his family after a four week stay at Coon Rapids and Ft. Dodge. Various local households hosted guests and activities over the weekend, including neighbors and relatives in Albia Russell Ottumwa and Bloomfield.

Spencer Leads John F. Kennedy Girls To National AAU Tourney

John E. Spencer of Albia assisted his son Bob Spencer, athletic director and coach at John F. Kennedy College, as the team finished second at the National AAU tournament in Gallup, New Mexico. Lois Stuflick and Kay Roberson earned All-American honors, while Jeanette Olson won the National Free Throw championship with 97 of 100.

Moravia Promoters benefit basketball night draws crowd

Saturday’s Moravia Promoters event, held March 29, drew about 450 spectators for a night of class competitions and the main event pitting the Red Hot Mamas against the Mohawkettes. Profits exceeded 450 dollars with 350 from gate and over 100 from concessions, amid playful costumes and humorous team names. Regular Promoters meeting set for April 7 at 7 30 pm.
