Next Saturday September 3 Monticello hosts the White County Farmers Association first annual picnic at City Park. A mammoth farmers parade awards prizes for best float and representation. After 11 30 dinner the program includes speeches by Maurice Douglass and F W Boyle, musical numbers, corn variety display from Purdue, and games, horseshoe tournament, and township lineups for the parade.

Harvest Festival Planned in Brookston September 28 to October 1
Brookston businessmen join Prairie Township farmers and R S Bundy to stage a Harvest Festival from September 28 to October 1. White and surrounding county farmers are invited to display farm produce and livestock including hogs horses cattle and poultry. The event will feature boys and girls pig corn and garden clubs, Purdue University soil and seed certification displays, and daily entertainment for large crowds with generous spend to ensure enjoyment.

Fire damages Deckard home loss partly insured
A large fire last week heavily damaged the residence of William Deckard and his wife. Officials say defective wiring sparked the blaze, which started in a closet with bed clothes and wearing apparel. Insurance partially covers the loss.

Monticello man injured when team spooked by passing train
Frank Stanner of Monticello employed by Luther Gordon was badly injured Friday when a frightened team he drove spooked at a passing train. One horse fell on him during the attempt to stop the carriage. He was treated by Dr. C. R. Netherton at St Elizabeth hospital, left the hospital Sunday, and returned home.

Stroke Leaves Husband in Critical Condition Far from Home
Mrs. Newton Funk learned Saturday her husband, who traveled to Michigan with others, suffered a paralytic stroke. His left side is weak and speech is lost. He remains in serious condition in Papaw Michigan. Relatives Mrs. Neis and Mrs. Clouse, daughters of Mr. Funk, joined Mr. and Mrs. Minor Neis and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Clouse to be with him.

Hughes couple return from four state trip
Mr and Mrs Jake Hughes came home last Tuesday after four weeks visiting relatives in North and South Dakota Montana and Minnesota. They praised Hoosier people and noted a large Montana wheat crop. Frank Hughes hosts them and expects about seven thousand five hundred bushels of grain this year.

Thieves Operate Around Reynolds Target Ex-Commissioner Cars
In Reynolds area over the past days, thieves entered Ex-commissioner Martin L Rinker’s garage twice, stealing tires. About 125 teachers from across the county attend the White County Teachers Institute at the local high school this week. Warm weather, but strong sessions with lectures. Closing sessions Friday, preliminary institutes Saturday. All county schools start Monday except Monticello city schools. County Supt Kirby B Payne presided and Ruth Vogel acted as pianist.

Death of Jack Rodehaver In Airplane Crash At Winona Lake
Rev. and Mrs. Biederwolf report the death of 18 year old Jack Rodehaver at Winona Lake when the airplane he piloted crashed after a lurching turn. R. M. Merrell, in the rear seat, also died instantly. Merrell had been teaching Rodehaver to fly. Witnesses described a violent crash as the plane went over. The funeral was held Saturday.

White County selects boys judging team for Indiana State Fair

Monticello Old Settlers' Day Nightmare Arrests
John Caldwell of Lafayette visited Monticello during Old Settlers' Day and sped through streets in a red Haynes speedwagon. He drunkly distributed liquor, knocked down Night Marshal Rothrock during a stop, and was jailed. Five state charges were filed including intoxication and speeding with a $900 bond set. He posted bond and was released pending trial.

Old Settlers Day Honors In Spite Of Rainy Morning
Despite rough weather the Old Settlers Day program progressed with music by the Community Chorus and Orchestra under Duncan Kerr and Ruth Vogel. Governor Warren T. McCray spoke on agricultural depression, foreign credits, par liberty bonds, and freight-rate cuts to revive business, urging international trade and farmer prosperity.
