The record notes false drawing and uttering of a check attributed to Art Obreckling with check costs paid and case dismissed. No new cases were entered in the docket of C. F. Shimanek, justice of the peace.
Sixty persons named for the Jones County district court petit jury for the October term. Trial begins October 2 with jurors reporting October 9 at 9 a.m. Warren J. Rees to preside. Juror list includes residents from Monticello, Onslow, Martelle, Oxford Junction, Wyoming, Olin, Scotch Grove, Center Junction, Langworthy, Cascade, Anamosa, IH, and other towns.
A two vehicle collision near the junction of highways 151 and 64 at 12 50 a m left three people injured. Alvin Haas 42 and his wife Margaret were treated at Anamosa Community Hospital for facial lacerations while Hubert Gray 59 suffered arm and elbow contusions. Haas rear ended Gray as both cars moved southwest on 151. Haas cited for following too closely. damages estimated at 1400 for Haas 800 for Gray. Patrolman Toner investigated.
News editor Betty J. Wagner announces three new Express correspondents filling resignations and expanding coverage. Juanita Nelson becomes Langworthy, Walter Holtz covers Onslow, and Ray R. Hugh serves Delhi, joining 14 other active correspondents.
Monticello Rotarians and their wives welcomed teachers and spouses from local schools for an annual style dinner at the Community building. Rex Conn, Cedar Rapids Gazette farm editor, spoke after 6:30 p.m. with slides from the Mediterranean and Europe as Jerry Naylor introduced new staff. Ray Kleinow led the organizing team.
The Jones county welfare department will distribute surplus commodities Monday September 25 from 9 30 a m to 3 30 p m in the community room of the courthouse recipients should bring their own containers
Anamosa resident Marie Pearson 53 sustained head lacerations and a broken arm in a one car crash on old Highway 151 one mile southwest of Anamosa at 7 30 a m Friday. Her 1959 Ford suffered about 400 in damage. Sheriff Ralph Albaugh investigated with no charges filed.
George R. Arduser Jr., 16, was charged with driving too fast for existing conditions after a 2:20 a.m. collision on West Sixth Street. He drove a 1961 Chevrolet west and struck a parked 1959 Rambler owned by William J. Meisner. The Rambler was totaled. damages to the Chevrolet were about $300. Officer John Cook investigated.
The August welfare report shows Jones county spent 29 642 dollars from public assistance funds with 460 persons in 246 cases helped. Old age assistance aided 168 people at 15788 dollars, dependent children aid covered 280 people in 66 cases totaling 11994 dollars, with five blind and seven disabled recipients receiving 543 and 1317 dollars respectively.
The Mon ticello Community School District sworn in new board members Robert Patten, re elected for a second term, and Jack Knopp during a Monday ceremony. Robert Wahl was named president for 1967 68, with Bert Ballou and Dr C R Hosford as other directors. The board will meet on the second Monday of each month at 8 p m in the superintendent's office at Central School.
The Manpower study committee will meet at 7 30 tonight in the Monticello Community building to plan a Jones County survey. Representatives from county service organizations may attend as co chairs Dr. D W Kaiser and Lester Rickless preside.
In a quiet Tuesday session the Jones county board amended the secondary road budget and revised the county construction program. They accepted 48 objectors to the proposed zoning report and voted expenses for official county health board members at 10 dollars per day plus 10 cents per mile. All members attended.
Open house at the new Imperial apartments in Monticello is set for Sunday, September 24, with two sessions from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Owners Mr and Mrs Harland Hetzler invite all to tour the 12 unit complex on Timberline Road in the Kuriger addition southeast Monticello.
Dr. R. Andrew Carter of Monticello attends an insurance seminar at the Savery Hotel in Des Moines on September 9 and 10. Sponsored by the American Chiropractic Association, the event targets Iowa members and features Dr. M. Dean Chance of Coral Gables, Florida. The program focuses on administrative aspects of insurance relations and reporting for health, accident, and workers compensation insurance.
