A lone workman pounds pavement as jackhammers roar on Highway 151 preparing for a new asphalt surface. By Sept 10 the street was ready, paving began Sept 12 on schedule with Tri-State Paving as contractor.
The 1976 corn crop in Jones County faces a bleak outlook as scant rainfall. Yields may drop to 30 percent below normal, with wide variation from zero to over 100 bushels per acre. Soybeans show less impact, with expected yields of 20-25 bushels per acre.
Two Monticello women received minor injuries in a two car crash at 4 45 p m Tuesday Sept 14 near Monticello Penny Bronemann driver and Lois Thompson a passenger were treated and released at John McDonald hospital Richard M Seifert DeWitt driver of the second car was uninjured The collision occurred one mile south of Monticello on highway 151 near the X44 intersection when Seifert pulled from a private drive in front of Bronemann’s car Damages were 400 to Bronemann’s 1962 Volkswagen and 500 to Seifert’s 1976 Audi

Al Schneider dba Al's Auto sues Donald Starks for 150 and Don Fairley for 94.13 and Robert Diewold for 109 and Jerry Gray for 287.56. Cleve Chamberlin sues Gregory Glenn for 135.12 over a broken windshield. Jones Coop Dairy Herd Improvement Assn Inc sues Kenneth W Grimm and Joyce M Grimm for 204.76 as an insufficient funds check payment on an account.
Shirley Schneiter and Mary Azeltine from Monticello join Charlene George Carol Fairbanks Joyce Poulter from Anamosa Mary Keener Cascade Roberta Plattenburger Martello Mary Reade Onslow Alda Buresh Oxford Jct and Jo Ellen Schlarmann Scotch Grove in the updated neighborhood registry.

Martin J. Ahrendsen Jr lost his bid for a venue change but received a trial continuance to the October November term. Judge Ansel J. Charges involve breaking and entering with jury coverage cited.
