Post office expansion brings new facilities to Monticello
Planned remodeling and a 5 086 square foot addition will triple workroom space at the Monticello post office. Construction bids are set for October 2 with work beginning next spring in temporary quarters at 232 East First Street while brick exterior and new loading dock are built.

Five Weekend Accidents Reported in Jones County
Minor injuries reported in five weekend accidents across Jones county. A Monticello youth named Mark Allen Stark escaped injury when his 1961 Renault rolled on Amber road near Monticello, leaving the car a total loss. In Wapsipinicon state park, two teens sustained minor injuries when their car failed to control on the upper road. A 1969 Chevrolet driven by John Walter Haigh faced an OMI charge after striking a rock planter and hitting a tree. A chain reaction collision near the Morley turn-off caused no injuries.
