Haag backs into parked vehicle in Monticello collision
Michael E. Haag, 19, of Monticello, was charged with improper backing after his 1957 Oldsmobile hit a parked 1968 Buick on North Gill Street. The incident occurred Aug 19 at 7 15 a.m. Heiken, 19, also of Monticello, owned the Buick which sustained about 275 dollars in damage. Haag's car was undamaged.

Anamosa Man Appointed Second Deputy Sheriff
Thomas Walderbach 25 of Anamosa is named Jones county second deputy sheriff. The appointment by Sheriff Ralph Albaugh was approved by the county board and takes effect Sept. 1. Walderbach, married with three children, works at Collins Radio Co. in Cedar Rapids and has prior law enforcement experience with Linn county deputies and Anamosa police. He replaces John Wright who resigned to farm. Walderbach will live in Anamosa and work with Sheriff Albaugh and First Deputy Arnold Latuska.

Two Car Collision at North Cedar and Third Streets
Monticello police investigate a two car crash Saturday at 4:45 p.m. on North Cedar and Third. Stephen Leytem 17 of Cascade stopped for traffic when Gayle Winkler 18 of Monticello, braking failed, struck his rear. Winkler’s 1965 Ford and Leytem’s 1963 Ford suffered about 200 and 75 dollars in damage. no injuries reported. Police Chief John Cook led the inquiry.

Car and pickup collide near Koob garage north of Monticello
A Tuesday night crash at 10:45 p.m. near Koob garage on Highway 38 involved a 1961 Ford pickup driven by 62-year-old Harry Gerrets of Monticello and a 1969 Plymouth driven by 22-year-old Kenneth Haas of Hopkinton. The Plymouth attempted to pass and struck the Ford. Estimated pickup damage was $200. Investigation continues.

Adult High School Classes Planned for Monticello and Anamosa
Four 12 week evening courses open to all adults will start the week of Sept 8 in Monticello and Anamosa. Tuition is 15 dollars per class with registration on the first night. Courses include programmed mathematics English and earth science plus GED prep, offered by Area Ten Community college in cooperation with area districts.

UNI Extension offers parent education course in Monticello
The University of Northern Iowa will run a fall parent education extension class in Monticello beginning Sept. 9. Dr. Raymond Schlicher says the 16-session, three-hour per session course carries three credits and is aimed at teachers public relations. Tuition is $102 undergraduate $105 graduate plus a $5 late fee if not paid at first class. credits may apply to degrees or certificate renewal.
