Rotary members heard Marvin Woeste of Monti cello present candle making at their regular Monday meeting at St. Luke's Methodist church. Woeste demonstrated moulding coloring and decorating techniques and shared samples from Woeste's Wax Works. Bud McNeill chaired the program with Ray Kleinow presiding in Naylor's absence.

Jones County Supervisors Reappoint Memorial Board Member
The Jones County board of supervisors reappointed Charles Marshall of Wyoming to a three year term on the Memorial board. They approved a Class A liquor license for Fawn Creek Country Club at Anamosa and a Class B beer permit for Meehan Grocery at Stone City. The August report from the county home was accepted and several tax adjustments and cancellations were approved, including refunds to Fred Iben and Robert Bauer. A public auction of Lillian Harms property in Monticello was ordered for November 1 at 1 p.m.

Two Atlanta Men Injured In Detour Car Crash
Two young men from Atlanta Georgia were injured though not seriously in a one car accident at 7 20 p m on the highway 1 detour near Martella. James M Peel 20 the driver complained of chest pain and contusions while James R Robbins 21 suffered back pain and contusions. They were taken to Anamosa Community hospital for treatment. Peel failed to see the detour signs and lost control turning onto the detour. The car left the roadway on the south side of the highway damaging the right side and undercarriage in an estimated 1200 loss. Highway Patrolmen Toner and Carter Sheriff Albaugh and Deputy Wright assisted.

Two Accidents Reported In Monticello City
Two separate crashes last week in Monticello damaged three cars. At 1 55 p m Saturday at North Cedar and Second streets a 1966 Ford driven by Jean Ann Schlimmer and a 1967 Buick driven by Herman B Folkers collided, causing 200 dollars damage to Schlimmer and 175 dollars to Folkers vehicle. Folkers was charged with failure to yield at a stop. A second crash at 3 p m Friday on South Cedar near Grand involved a 1965 Oldsmobile driven by Rita Reding and a 1961 Chevrolet driven by Eugene W Holub with about 300 dollars damage to Reding’s car. Holub’s vehicle was undamaged.

Monticello Community schools set parent teacher conferences for the first nine weeks of the term from November 6 to 10 to coincide with American Education Week. Supt. Boyd Shannon announced that during the five days, classes will dismiss at 2 30 p.m., with each conference lasting about 20 minutes and parents urged to attend.
