A $91 753 grant to BCDJ Agency in Monticello was approved by the Office of Economic Opportunity. The 12 month program aids anti poverty efforts in Buchanan Clayton Jones and Delaware counties with four neighborhood centers in Winthrop McGregor Manchester and Anamosa.

Four Drivers Face Charges in County Accidents This Week
Four drivers in Jones County faced charges for accidents Friday and Saturday. Richard Miles of Des Moines faced a failure to maintain control after a Saturday 1 45 a.m. crash on highway 64 near Anamosa. Richard Wolken, 16, of Monticello, was charged for failing to control at an intersection near Monticello after a Saturday 12 05 a.m. crash. Robert Larkey, 24, of Onslow, was charged with failure to yield after a private-drive incident northeast of Onslow. Lawrence Larson, 45, of Anamosa, drove a Wyoming Ready Mix truck that was struck by Larkey’s Mercury on a county gravel road northeast of Onslow. A fourth, Steven Allen, 18, of Olin, had a separate crash on highway 151 near Anamosa with fence damage but no charges were filed.

Residents oppose Anamosa street plan in court filing
Jones county district court saw seven Anamosa residents sue the City of Anamosa to block proposed street improvements and remove six streets from the plan. Plaintiffs seek a permanent injunction and argue objections raised at a June hearing were ignored. A separate quieting of title suit in Anamosa and Monticello tied to the Nagel estate favored the plaintiffs, with no inheritance tax due. Inmates at the Anamosa reformatory faced habeas corpus actions and concurrent five year sentences for escape and larceny. A title suit favored the plaintiffs, involving property in Wyoming.
