Buck Creek Flood Credits Damage Across Delaware County
Four inches of rain in about two hours sent Buck Creek into a raging torrent from Ryan to Hopkinton, washing out about half a dozen bridges and damaging twenty along the creek. Pigs and livestock drowned, a cow reportedly struck by lightning, and fields flooded as officials worked overnight to barricade damaged spans and plan repairs. The Maquoketa River rose six inches while the creek widened to as much as 40 rods at the peak. Local sheriff, engineers, and highway patrolmen coordinated barricades and damage assessments through early Tuesday.
