Lovell Happy Helpers met May 7 1956 at Virginia Tuetken and Carol Tuetken s home. Twenty three members five mothers and a guest attended. Contest winners included Jan White and Carol Clark in Better Grooming Judy Schneider in the creed contest and Sharon Martinsen in the Dreaming song. Dixie Hanken named club convention delegate to Ames in July. Demonstrations covered upside down cake and salad prep by Judy Schneider Kathy Craig Jan White. talks on storage of vegetables and meal planning by Nancy Rieniers and Virginia Tuetken. Recreation was led by attending girls.
The Scotch Grove Cornhuskers met May 14 with 19 members. Willard Price was chosen as delegate to the Ames short course with Jim Wright as alternate. A hayride was planned for May 28 at 8 p.m. Members discussed combatters and knot tying and rope splicing demonstrations.
The Castle Grove Royal Rangers 4-H club met in the Peniel church basement with 34 members present. Loren Lubben was elected as the short course delegate to Ames. Talks covered corn borers and physique, with demonstrations on hammer use planter plates and chain repair links. Lunch followed the meeting served by the hosts and their mothers.
Agricolae Boys 4 H club met May 9 in the Community room with 12 members. Vice chairman Larry Otten presided. Stuart Snyder was elected for Ames short course, Dick Foulks chosen delegate to the State convention. June club tour planned. Scotch Grove Sunshine 4 H selects reps for rally day contests and a June picnic at Maquoketa caves with menu planning duties assigned.
During the meeting Ruth Ann Heiken was chosen to attend the state convention in Ames in the near future. Demonstration on Cas seroles by Heiken and a talk on Leftovers by Lynn Balster were part of the program at Louella Rickless's home. Miss Helen Tucker county extension director attended as a guest and presented a film on yeast breads and rolls and their variations.
At the May 12 meeting of the Oxford Livewire Lassies nineteen members four mothers and two leaders decided to tour Davenport June 7 visiting a bakery dairy and other points of interest A picnic for parents was planned for August Carolyn Fifield and Arlette Oster were named Dreaming and Creed contestants for Rally day Demonstrations on Chocolate Chip Cookies and Table Setting were given by Bonita Larkey and Sue Close Talks on Table Etiquette and Tips for Good Baking were presented by Diane Hodgden and Carolyn Fifield Refreshments were provided by hostesses Julie Mizaur and Carolyn Fifield
The Madison Jolly Janes entertained their mothers and guests with a May 12 tea at Memorial Hall in Wyoming. Guests received crocheted hanky corsages. Kathleen Davis led a welcome and club report. Creed and Dreaming contests crowned Judy Denison and Margaret Davis, with Kathleen Davis chosen for summer chorus. Mary Jo Ehlers accompanied group singing. Committees organized decorations food program invitations. The group wore 4-H jackets funded by meals at farm sales and square dances.
Martelle 4-H club members select Keith Reed as Ames short course delegate and Katherine Wacker as girls state convention delegate at May meeting. Keith Reed attends May 21 event at Martelle consolidated school. Jack son Wise Owls designate May 14 for Wacker. Also plan June 1 round-up and hear talks on personal appearance sheep care and feed opening.
A talk on the daily vitamin need from fruit juice was given by Dasenbrock. A team demonstration of A One Crust Pie With Meringue was presented by Katherine Wacker and Mary Jane Soper, hosted by Barbara Folkers and Janice Meyers.
The Wyoming Polly Pigtails hosted a Mother's Day tea on May 7 in the Wyoming home economics room. Members performed a mixing game and varied readings while planning invitations and corsages. Janet Zimmerman acted as county officer candidate and Barbara Holub as Ames delegate.
Buck Creek residents hosted guests from Jacksonville Florida Greene and Delhi along with Manchester Monticello and Froelich. Alumni events and local graduations were reported including Coggan high school and Buck Creek commencement.
Felix Netcell 72 of Red Oak suffered a severe arm injury when a mechanical post hole digger grabbed his sleeve and twisted it causing three compound fractures. Surgeons performed an amputation to save his life.
WYOMING The Area 18 Brotherhoods will meet for their spring meeting at Wyoming in the Zion Lutheran church Sunday evening June 3 at 8 p.m. The featured speaker will be Dwight Krumboltz of Cedar Rapids attorney of law will speak on A Lawyer's Point of View of the Trial of Jesus. The girls choir will sing an anthem and other music will be on the program. Ronald Holtz area president and Virgil Vernon secretary will be in charge of the business meeting. A brotherhood hour will follow in the church activity rooms. The men in charge of arrangements are Reception committee R. L. Holtz Roy Holzinger Leonard Horn Howard Day and John M. Lyle Cooling, a Corydon student, was unconscious for 12 hours after colliding with another player while attempting to catch a football. The incident occurred during a youth gridiron game and prompted medical evaluation.
